Best application tool/brush/sponge/fingers?

Years ago, I tried Double Wear Light and hated it. It was like having a plastic skin as a mask on my face. Surprisingly, I’ve recently tried Double Wear and got a sample. I’m not sure if it’s always been this formula but it is amazing stuff. I’ve used the tiniest amount and moisturised well first. It has left me completely poreless. It doesn’t budge and whatever you put on top of it, doesn’t budge either! Used on my lids, it’s a great primer for shadow and used under eyes means I just don’t need any concealer. My blusher is usually worn off by lunch but I can honestly say, I’ve not needed to retouch at all.

Double Wear Original gets SUCH bad press on here but, I’m sold! What’s the best way to apply?

I think ELDW is one of the best foundations out there. It doesn't go quite pale enough for me but that aside it's fantastically reliable. I think there are a lot of fans of it on here.

Application - beauty blender - it's the best for applying any foundation as it doesn't leave streak marks.

@Use...Thanks for that. I’ve used a stipple brush and a foundation brush but have found fingers best as both left some streaks. Do beauty blenders remove your moisturiser? Probably a silly question 😐

I really like the Real Techniques sponge (similar to Beautyblenders, but cheaper and a different shape that I really like), used damp.
I also use the sponge to apply cream blusher and cream highlighter and find that it does not disturb the foundation underneath.

A buffing brush such as the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (decent quality) or Morphe M439 (less good quality, but I really like the brush anyway) is also really good.

ELDW is such a good foundation - I always thought it would be too heavy and mask-like, but I really like it. It is not as full coverage as I thought it would be (which is great!), and it lasts so well on my oily skin.

I really don’t rate beauty blenders, I think until they have product build up they just drink all of your foundation up and by then it’s time to wash them again!

You need a Sigma F80 brush, I always go back to it, pricey but 100% worth it, watch some YouTube vids on how to use but I basically blob foundation on each cheek, chin and forehead and then buff it in little circles wit the F80 from the centre of my face working out and it’s amazing.

I got mine on amazon Grin

I may be a total amateur but I always use my fingers. They don't absorb any product, don't leave streaks and I read somewhere that the warmth of your skin helps blend. I love double wear too. I recently bought loreal infallible foundation as I read on my MN it was a brilliant dupe and it's fantastic as a cheaper alternative

SigmaF80 looks a bit like this from Cult Beauty. Never heard of the brand but gets excellent reviews. Anyone tried it?

I have the Sigma F80 as well. Bought it a few months ago just in case it was better than the Beauty Blender but it wasn't. On the cheek and forehead it's much of a muchness but around the nose and eyes it's not as easy to use as a sponge.
In answer to your other question, no sponges don't remove your moisturiser but whichever you use you should normally give it 60 seconds to sink in before doing the next stage of your make up (for me that's primer before the foundation goes on).

I've used Double Wear light for years and years. It's so good! I just use my fingers to put it on, and a brush for special occasions when I'm going to be photographed... but I just bought TODAY the Double Wear Nude cushion stick, which has its own built in sponge applicator. It's pretty fool proof (I did smooth over with clean fingers though).

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 28/04/2018 09:29

@withouttea...sounds good. How do you wash the sponge bit?

I've not washed it yet, because I only bought it yesterday. Good point - I wish I'd asked!

I guess the usual - use up the product on the sponge and then warm water and a little detergent, and rinse. It can't be detached. It would be a very handy all-in-one fir travelling, though.

For those who wear double wear on nights out, weddings etc, do you find it comes out white in photos? I love it but stopped wearing it because of flashback in any photos i was in. I'd have a lovely Brown neck and snow white face???

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 28/04/2018 14:44

I don’t make go out after dark Grin.

No, can’t say I’ve noticed that. I used to use a Vichy BB 50spf. Used it on holiday and I looked like I’d been abducted by aliens...all kind of see through and glowing but not in a good way. Had to bin it, in the end.
