Fluffy hair

I have thick wavy hair which I straighten, however it never looks glossy, it always looks fluffy, even if I spend a stupid amount of time running my 235 degree Corioliss straighteners over it it goes fluffy in about 10-15 mins. I use heat protection spray and keratin smoothing shampoo etc.

Am I missing some miracle product that will make me have shiny glossy hair?

I tried the Wow Dreamcoat on mine, and it has helped. It’s quite expensive but it lasts through three washes. I suppose it just coats your hair in plastic, but at least my fringe lies down properly now.

Thanks @Greenteandchives I'll go and have a google of that now

Shine spray / serums etc

I use Moroccan oil and tigi shine spray when i need a boost - i’m sure there’s similar products in boots/superdrug

Brazilian keratin treatment!!! It shortened the length of time that my hair needs drying, i can get it straightened in 10 to 15 mins and mu hair is bra strap length.
And when its straight it looks silky like its naturally straight. Rain and hummidity dont frizz it.

I did mine with the kit from amazon but i believe its sold out though there are other kits which i havent tried. You could also get it done in hairdressers.

John frieda sirum anti frizz helps if you cant get a brazilian keratin treatment now. I put it on while my hait is soaking wet.

I heard good reviews on japanese straightening too but havent tried it myself.

Your hair is probably damaged from all the straightening and using products filled with silicones.

Try switching to silicone free products and learn how to do a proper blow dry. If you get a powerful hairdryer and blow dry at a lower heat, you can get your hair just as smooth but with more volume and less heat damage. Do weekly deep conditioning treatments to moisturise your hair and scalp.

Silicone free products make my thick wavy hair really dry and dull. A once a week, or so, clarifying shampoo prevents silicone build up. So no need to cut them out completely. Maybe non-silicone products work better on fine hair, I dong know.
I use Lush Big shampoo but Pantene do a decent one. Look for the words clarifying, detoxing, pure, for oily hair, that kind of thing. They're usually clear in colour too.

I had olaplex with my hair colour at a salon and it was amazingly good. Incredibly shiny and smooth. I think you can get it done as a stand alone treatment without a colour.

I agree that all the heat styling might be damaging your hair. How is your hair if you blow dry the roots and let the ends dry by themselves? Are there days you can skip the straightening? Hair with some texture and movement to it looks good and more modern atm.

Wondering if a protein treatment could help too? You can get hair masks specifically for hair that needs a protein boost. Have a google and see if that looks familiar.

Silicone products will actually help hair look glossy. They mostly wash off but if you do use them it would be worth investing in a clarifying shampoo to use weekly.

You can get Olaplex stand alone treatments and Olaplex number three is a consumer product for home use. One of the big online beauty shops sells it (Look Fantastic?) or a local salon will stock it. It's a hair strengthener not a conditioner, so it won't make a difference to the look or feel of your hair, I suspect it was the colour which added the shine but it's worth using if you heat style daily to prevent damage and breakage. Hair that is not strong and healthy will never shine.

Kerastase ciment theramique has transformed my hair. I also use the resistance range shampoo and conditioner, not cheap but my hair now looks as straight as my hairdresser does it and stays that way all day as it use to be fluffy by mid morning.

I know this might go against the grain, but why are you straitening your curly hair.

Accept all of yourself as you are, and let your curls out.

I’ve gone curly girl (curly girl.com) and the relief of not thinking I have to conform to a straight ideal is liberating

My hair isn’t frizzy or damaged, it’s glossy and curly and has great volume. It suits me perfectly now.

My advice is to get kinky sister!
Only some of us are blessed with unique curly hair, so let it out, and stop trying to be a clone of someone you aren’t.

Stop shampooing as much as possible. I used to shampoo daily and had the same problem. Now I rinse and condition daily (I have to because I wake up looking like the cookie monster) but only shampoo every 5 or 6 days. A bit of mousse to control it and let it dry naturally. I do work from home tho so no need to leave the house with dry hair in the morning...
