Dry shampoo makes my hair grey

I bought some dry shampoo for those mornings I don't have time to wash my hair. I like the way it feels but the downside is that I have dark hair so I end up grey!!!

Am I doing it right. The grey doesn't tend to brush out so I end up rubbing a towel over my hair til it comes out.

I'm in Work atm and I'm convinced I have a grey streak at the back of my head that I can't see Grin like a poor man's Cruella De Ville!!!

So, is there a technique to applying it or am I spraying it too close (I'm usually a good few inches away from my head when I use it)? Help!!

I second @LoveInTokyo - using it at night works so much better, it has time to really sink in and the friction on your pillow removes any grey streaks! I tend to find that using it at night makes it last really well, too - I can usually go for a few days without washing my hair once I've done it.

(FYI, although it's pricey, I can highly recommend Aveda dry shampoo. It lasts for ages and it's seriously effective!)

The one for brunettes was great for my hair but not my neck, by the end of the day it looked a bit grubby Blush (I have pale skin). I haven't slept in it but I'd worry for the pillowcase!

Could you wash your hair the night before or would that not work? I find my hair settles better if I wash it the night before. I wash it, roughly blow dry and then plait it before sleeping and it's ok to brush through in the morning. It saves me lots of time faffing around.

I cannot for the life of me get dry shampoo to work, yet I used it years ago when I was growing out a perm. Probably 20 years ago, but I can’t remember how I did it! Now when I try, I just get a mess. I spray it into my roots and try to distribute it and my hair ends up looking worse.

Can someone give an example of how they make it work?

I use 0.5 tsp coco powder with 1 tsp cornstarch, 2 or 3 drops of an essential oil like lavender or orange (makes your hair smell like chocolate orange!). Mix together then bend over the bath tub or shower tray and dip my finger tips into the mixture, massaging the scalp. I brush it out and boom! Plenty of volume. DIY brunettes dry shampoo that smells like chocolate!

I love dry shampoo.

To avoid the 'grey hair effect' I simply spray it in, massage with fingertips, leave for about 5 minutes and then rub with a towel (as though I was towel drying after a shower). Perfect every time.

OP, I had the same problem and avoided the dark hair Batiste one for ages thinking it would be a weird colour spray - it isn't! The dark hair one is brilliant.
