What to do about red cheeks

They've always been rosy. When I was younger, it wasn't too noticeable but admittedly I did wear makeup more often.

It's not irritated or sore and my skin is in really good condition but I look like a tomato. I've noticed small veins appearing too (spider veins?).

Any ideas what to try to make my face a more normal colour? I don't want to cover it with foundation.

Broken capillaries. Personally, as a person with high colour and a few broken veins I would not use green colouring that you see everywhere. Unless you are very careful you can get a greyish cast to your face.

I prefer to use a concealer (sometimes) that is slightly yellowish/beigey (I am a warm ivory).

Actually some CC creams (not green ones!) can cover enough. I have an Erborean one but several, though not completely covering, did 'soften' the appearance of redness. Hope that helps. Try a tinted day cream/CC cream.

Thank you deathray. I've used tinted moisturisers before but they haven't toned down the redness.
Are cc creams light on the skin or do they feel like foundation?

Does anyone have any cruelty free recommendations please? I've tried lily lolo minerals before but my skin reacted badly.

I use the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC cream it covers most of my broken capillaries

I bought DERMACOL MAKE-UP COVER from Amazon.

I use only a few tiny dots on each cheek & it totally disguises any redness. Have also tried a dab of Metanium cream first, this tones down the red & helps with any broken/sore blotchy skin.

Have you tried green primer? no 7 has a good one

GOSH do both a BB and a CC and are totally cruelty free (and inexpensive). Easily obtainable from good old Superdrug. I've not actually tried the BB/CC but their foundations are extremely light-weight, so might be worth a try?

I would suggest using a concealer just where you need it, and maybe just use a tinted moisturiser/BB/CC cream everywhere else - or nothing else if you prefer. The concealer should be set with a bit of powder to last all day.
Make sure the concealer matches your skin perfectly - you should be able to get a bit of help at counters if need be :)

I would suggest Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage concealer and powder, but there are so many good products on the market now.

Clinique Redness foundation is the bees knees

Thank you for the recommendations. I'm going to try GOSH as that's the only one I know is cruelty free. Can't believe I didn't search for that before as if I do wear foundation its GOSH Blush. I used to use the B range from Superdrug but they stopped doing the cosmetic range for a couple of years for some reason.

I like the idea of just a concealer where needed too as I don't like the feeling of anything on my skin as I've got older.

Is there a way to actually get rid of the veins that doesn't involve lasers?

I actually use B (Superdrug's own) BB cream so assume they still do a limited range? However, the only available shade is "Medium" which I find very dark. I mix it with MUA (also cruelty free, also available from Superdrug) shade lightening liquid which works a treat if you've bought a make up shade that's too dark but don't want to just chuck it out.

Is it possible that you have rosacea? If that’s the case topical antibiotics could clear it up? It worked for me and now I don’t have to wear make up. If it’s not that ignore me!!

poppym12 · 27/04/2018 16:59

I don't think so zippyswife as there's no irritation or spots, nor does it flare up in any way. I've always had 'rosy cheeks'. I've noticed as I age that the skin on my shins has become thinner and more susceptible to bruising and the little veins on my cheeks seem to show up more. Getting older is an ass ache at times!
