What shape skirt

I fancied a skirt for work this summer and ordered 7 from Boden. They all look shit (confirmed by dh who is usefully honest).

I have a smallish waist (proportionally) but a c section overhang on a lower tummy which has always struggled. Pencil/straight skirts really highlight this and cling whilst the waist bags.

I tried a couple of more flowy midi skirts but I'm short and have to wear flats so looked dumpy even though the waist was flattering.

Do I give up? Concentrate on dresses?

A tulip skirt? That would show your waist but hide overhang

PhyllisWig · 25/04/2018 21:30

I love tulip skirts but can never find any. Am off to google....,

I do love that shape but out of stock in my size (and probably a bit too
much for work).

I wonder how hard they are for me/my mother to make.

I have a few bought brand new off ebay.

Phuquocdreams · 25/04/2018 22:17

Re the overhang, have you tried control pants? Post babies, I don’t wear anything else....

plipplip · 25/04/2018 22:36

I like stretchy ruched skirts like this one. Also have a c section issue going on but these skirts are very flattering whilst being fitted around the waist.

The Nicola Quilter Aline skirts are fab. They are lined and well made and come in 3 lengths.

Lots of different patterns.

BigFatBloomers · 25/04/2018 23:12

I was going to suggest A line too.
I like Nicola Quilter. I have a knee length dewdrop

goose1964 · 26/04/2018 11:51

Those Nicola quilter are so insulting to anyone outside 12-14

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/04/2018 12:59

goose1964

I had no idea what you could mean (by "insulting") so I went and had a look. WTAF?

KatharinaRosalie · 26/04/2018 13:25

goose I went to look as well. OMG why?

Hi OP

If you thinking of making your own, the Sew Over It Patterns are really straight forward. I've not seen their tulip skirt pattern, but it does look good in their photos:

MrPotatosGirlfriend · 26/04/2018 14:49

Also WTF about the sizing on the quilter link. I would never buy the brand based on that!

Bluntness100 · 26/04/2018 14:51

Those size definitions are very strange. I can't understand why anyone would label their clothes like that. I love that skirt, but that would put me off shopping with them.

verite · 26/04/2018 16:07

I’m guessing that in their deluded mind they think it’s better than xs,s,m,l and xl!

TheClitterati · 26/04/2018 19:12

I'm 18-20 and have no problem being called voluptuous.

Bloomed · 27/04/2018 00:19

How odd. I expect it's part of their slightly twee brand identity.
