Spots after starting skincare routine?

Most of my make up ran out a couple of weeks ago so before replacing I'd thought it'd be best to start a proper skincare routine. I've always just washed my face in the shower, never moisterised and reguarly fallen asleep with make up still on Blush

I'm 26, normal-ish skin that's prone to a few spots. I bought a few products at the weekend and have been using them a couple of days, since then I've had a couple of spots appear but I'm not sure if they're spots that I would have got anyway or due to the products? My face doesn't feel irritated at all.

In the AM I've been using boots micellar water then a Nivea toner then Nivea soft moisteriser.
Same in the PM except also using Nivea sensitive cleansing milk after the micellar water.
I also have the superdrug naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser but haven't used that yet.
Do I just need to persevere?

That seems a bit early on to blame the new products.

I am massively allergic to nivea stuff though so I kind of want to blame the products!

You may have a reaction to an ingredient in the products.

It is not that uncommon, and often your skin will get used to the ingredient over time.

Some years ago, people mentioned that new skincare products could trigger a purge - where you'd get breakouts because the products were working. This is, AFAIK, generally a myth. It may be true for some products like acids and retinols, but for normal moisturisers and cleansers, it is far more likely that what people believed was the skin purging really was irritation or an allergic reaction, and after a while the skin de-sensitised to the ingredient that previously triggered the reaction.

It may also be that the products do not suit your skin.

It is your skin, so you should do what you feel is right - you might find that the spots will go away, or you might find that you'll keep getting spots. If you're happy with the products, then you could persevere, and if it doesn't improve, find something else.

I've had reactions like this to many products in the past - some were definitely caused by an ingredient, other were caused by the products being wrong for my skin type.

I'll carry on for a few weeks and try something different if the spots carry on. The rest of my skin feels lovely and soft so I don't think it's a reaction/irritation, I think they're just the usual little spots I get anyway. I was obviously just expecting to have lovely blemish free skin right away Grin
