Do these teeth need fixed? Pic included, am probably mad!

I’ve attached a picture of my teeth.

I used to like my teeth, but they’re moving as I move into late thirties 🙁

The top 2 are starting to stick out.

How noticeable is it to you and if you owned these teeth would you get them fixed?

They look like very clean, white, healthy teeth. They aren't perfectly straight so if that bothers you then maybe you could do something about it, but only for you. Not for any one else.

They do stick out but fixing them would be very expensive. DH has a similar problem and it was going to cost £5k to fix, and the orthodontist said because he's an adult his teeth with relapse so he'd have to wear a retainer every night forever to stop them moving back. So he decided against it for both reasons.

Can I hip on your thread OP? I feel the same about mine (pic included) and I also think I have some gum disease 😞 so need to see a good dentist (the NHS ones are shit here).

I'm 30 and my teeth have shifted too. I want braces but as it's cosmetic it would cost quite a lot so atm I'm just thinking about it.

My dentist said teeth can start to naturally move as you age, I think it is something about bone density changing in your jaw...I think.

Thanks for all the feedback on my gnashers!

I probably inclined to get the top row done with the Iman Aligners. Going to ask dentist about it this week.

To the other poster who posted a picture of their teeth, I think your teeth are perfect, completely straight arch!

OH I see the tooth now, it does stick out a little in the second picture.

Big decisions for us!

You have good teeth, but they aren't straight and could get worse as you age. I'd go have a consultation and find out your options.

I'd probably just get the chipping fixed and make the front teeth square and the same length.

I think it looks like you needed a brace when you were younger but didn’t have one. I didn’t realise teeth could move. Your teeth are fine but I can see why you would want them straighter.

If you can afford it, just do it! If it's bothering you now, it will bother you forever if you don't get it sorted and I think you'd be delighted with the results.

Had mine done in my twenties and 10 years later (36) it still makes me so happy to check out my 'new' gnashers, and people often compliment them (). I also think that as you get older, teeth have an even more important part to play in looking good, so get it sorted now...why wait!

To add, whatever treatment you get, make sure there's some kind of retainer afterwards to use permanently (either the wire at the back of your teeth or a plastic retainer to wear at night). The only reason mine are still straight is because I pop the plastic retainer in for a few nights whenever I feel my teeth moving).

Oh and as an aside, missed your age in the OP - from the photo you totally look in your twenties!

And LoveLilies, agree with OP that in the first picture your teeth look really straight, second picture you can see the one tooth that needs a bit of a shift. Just get it done, do it - we've got one life, why not get perfect teeth! (obvs costs permitting).

I like them just the way they are. If they're giving you problems (painful, it's hard to eat or something) fair enough, but they're far from unattractive. I like slightly wonky teeth, personally.

OP It looks like your arch is high and they’re not in alignment. Also that you grind them.

I’d definitely get the top and bottom in train track braces. This will stop you grinding your teeth, wearing them down.

To the lady with gum disease and a dead nerve in the front tooth. You need to see a dentist and periodontal specialist. The alignment of your teeth is the least of your worries if you have gum disease. That will all have to be scraped out before any orthodontics.

I think your front teeth are really cute and add a lot of character. I think you look very approachable by your smile.

lovelilies your gums on the top look inflamed. That's the first thing to get looked at. The teeth aren't bad but if they bother you I think it might be an easy enough job to correct them.

I think your teeth are absolutely fine. I think the current obsession for perfectly straight bright white teeth is too much but that’s just my opinion

lovelilies That is exactly how my teeth looked - not a major thing, but one of my upper incisors protruded over my bottom lip every time I smiled (making me look like Nanny McPhee), unless I consciously stuck out my bottom jaw a bit each time!

As a result, I often smiled with my lips closed. I now have a clear fixed brace and can see that the tooth is already back in place, and would recommend it.

To the PPs saying that teeth will just shirt again - I will have to wear plastic retainers at night after my fixed brace comes off, but for me, it is so worth it to have perfectly straight teeth and to be able to smile widely without worrying how it looks.

It's up to you, obviously, but I think your teeth add a bit of character.

I had one bugger that stuck out and it was never a problem until my thirties when everything started moving. I had two taken out when I was a kid because of "overcrowding" (current dentist says that it was in fact, unnecessary!) so there's room for them to move. It started to stick out more and other teeth began to move too, so I had invisalign done.

The treatment was a bit of a pain but fine all in all. My issue now is that although my teeth look better and I don't feel self-conscious smiling anymore, they don't fit together anymore! My bite isn't right and salad, apple skin, rice etc are quite a problem to chew.

I've got the fixed wire retainer and have had it for 6 months. My dentist said my teeth/bite would shift slightly to accommodate it, but it hasn't. I've had it altered once and will try again but I get the feeling I'm going to have to get it taken off and wear a plastic one at night. I wear a guard at night anyway, so that wouldn't be a problem but I'm worried that without a constant tether, they will start to move again during the day, seeing as they moved an awful lot in the last few years and they have the room to.

The one thing I was warned about when I started was that the roots could be affected and it seems to me that if they were able to move quite a bit during the day (remember I would be pushing them back into my normal bite every time I ate), and then corrected back every night, that the roots would have no time to settle and there would be a knock-on effect. I may be being over-anxious about it, but I don't want my teeth deteriorating faster than normal because of this procedure.

Everyone will have different experiences, this is just mine, but I would advise that you talk specifically about your after-treatment plan and how your bite will be affected.

On someone else I wouldn’t notice, on myself, in all honestly, I would have them fixed. But they’re your teeth, if you’re happy, then don’t bother ... fuck my opinions.
