Do you spend more £ on your 1st or 2nd cleanse?

I currently use Bobbi Browns cleansing oil which is amazing (smells gorgeous too) but not sure I can justify spending £33 on it again so would also like to try something else. I’m very intrigued about the Vitamin C Cleansing oil by Super Facialist (£11 in Boots, smells fab, great reviews). I’ve also just got a sample of Clinique TTDO & the new No7 balm to try. I currently 2nd cleanse with Aldi Lacura’s dupe of LE cleanse & polish which is very good. My question to you all is would you rather spend more money on your 1st cleanse (balm/oil) or on your 2nd cleanse? 😀

Definitely second cleanse because that's the one that has most contact with my skin. First cleanse is just getting all the grease and dead cells!

BoogleMcGroogle · 21/04/2018 17:39

Is this a thing? I, erm, single cleanse with a bar of Dove, my skin is clean and looks pretty good. Truly, give it a try and spend the surplus on white Burgundy, you'll never look back.

The Vitamin C cleansing oil is lovely stuff, but I’d use that first. An oil or a micellar water to take off make-up and a conditioning lotion cleanser afterwards to properly clean.

KirstenRaymonde · 21/04/2018 17:42

@BoogleMcGroogle I envy you then, my skin goes mental if not properly cared for.

IIRC correctly, Dove has independent recomendations from dermatologists as being pretty good. I think it isn't exactly a soap iuswim, but don't ask me the difference IDK.

Lanaa · 21/04/2018 17:46

My first. I use Neutrogena wipes, then I use DHC oil to get off the makeup and sunscreen etc then wash it off properly with LRP. It's taken me a while to find a combo that works well and can remove eye makeup etc. It's worth the cost to me and price per use is a lot cheaper than the Emma Hardie etc that I used to use.

Fullfatlatte · 21/04/2018 17:47

What 2nd cleansers do you love?

Boogle - 👌😂 I would love to get away with just soap but that won’t be happening!

I don’t invest much in either as a i always swipe an AHA like Pixi Glow Tonic over my skin afterwards. I figure that if I’ve done the job properly then all traces of the cleanser will be down the plug hole along with my make-up. I did find the Clinique TTDO oil effective but a little joyless as it’s completely unscented (a plus for many I know). I use Mermaya cleansing balm to remove make-up (so good & very reasonable at £15 ish). I always use a second clean white flannel for 2nd cleanse & there is barely ever anything on it as 1st cleanse is so effective.

I’m currently using BeautyPie JapanFusion cleanser for 2nd/morning cleanse and it’s lovely. Really therapeutic to massage it in until the texture changes. I think it might struggle to get every bit of longwear foundation & sunscreen off on its own though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/04/2018 17:53

I’m using simple brand grape seed oil for both cleanses & in the morning.

I’ll switch to a grape seed oil from an aromatherapy company when it runs out.

Fullfatlatte · 21/04/2018 17:57

Getoffthetablemabel - Totally agree about the un-scented! Slightly gutted that both the Clinique & No7 balms don’t smell divine! I’m a sucker for anything that smells amazing! I purchased the Pixi Glow tonic about 3wks ago & really like it. Thanks for the recommendations, will check them out. 😀

My dermatologist certainly never mentioned a double cleanse, and I have pretty oily and rubbish skin, now totally sorted with some fairly basic cleansers. I'm with @BoogleMcGroogle, love your style 😉

GuildfordMum101 · 21/04/2018 18:02

I don't wear make-up, so no 1st cleanse for me :-) Just Dove soap in the shower in the evening, and Micellar Water in the morning for a freshen up. Use No7 serums and face creams though.... love them.

I'm with @BoogleMcGroogle I need to use actual soap and water of some description first or I just don't feel clean! I find with cleansers you're just spreading make up around for ages. I use Lush Fresh Farmacy face soap or coal face (but any sort of foaming cleanser seems to do the job - the Lancôme one is lovely).

I would spend more on the second cleanser as that's what's staying on your face longest.

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/04/2018 18:08

I use Garnier miceller water. 700ml bottle is a fiver.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/04/2018 18:17

I'm convinced double cleansing was invented to make us spend double the money.

Cosmetics are so sophisticated these days, I can't imagine it's not possible to buy a cleanser that can actually cleanse.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/04/2018 18:29

I use cheap micellar to remove my makeup, then a proper cleanser. I switch between Emma Hardie, Clinique TTDO, Superdrug brightening, and REN, and in the morning I use Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip.

I think that’s precisely why double cleansing can be necessary. It obviously depends what make up you use but long wear foundations are designed to adhere well to the skin. They can take some shifting. I’m using the YSL All Hours foundation at the moment and don’t feel it’s completely gone unless I double cleanse. I am all trying to be better at wearing spf 50 on my face every day and it’s good to know I’ve got all of that out of my pores too.

PugwallsSummer · 21/04/2018 19:01

I'm another Dove soap user, followed by Nivea Soft moisturizer, I've tried other, more expensive, regimes but always come back to trusty old Dove. Having said that, I do spend £££ on a regular facial because I enjoy it (I'm not convinced my skin looks any different as a result though). And currently considering some fillers.

What is a first and second cleanse, I'm intrigued - it's not something I've heard of and I thought I was relatively on the ball 😳

Chortlesauraus · 21/04/2018 19:38

I've never even heard of this first and second cleanse business-in fact I initially assumed first cleanse must be washing your face in the morning and the second cleanse washing it in the evening....albeit a twatty way of saying it-like at nursery when they say 'mark making' instead of drawing 🙄

Anyway, so first second cleanse, what is it??!

SporkInTheToaster · 21/04/2018 19:56

Heavy eye make up off with Clarins biphase eye MU remover. Followed by an oil cleanse with hot water & a muslin. I might do the oil again if MU especially heavy but I don’t really wear lots of heavy base MU, it tends to be eye MU, which is removed largely by the Clarins.

boogle, if soap works for you, that’s great but it would be too harsh on my skin (yes, I have tried).

OCSockOrphanage · 21/04/2018 20:12

I use either an oil to emulsion cleanser or DHC oil as step one, then micellar water (I don't bother about brand generally, whatever's on offer) in the evening, and a dermologica face wash in the morning in the shower. My (fairly easy) skin manages to look okay more often than not, and I am old.

Potplant2 · 21/04/2018 20:19

People cleanse twice?!

Face wash and a flannel in the shower does it for me.

Fullfatlatte · 21/04/2018 20:38

Chortle - 1st cleanse would be a balm/oil to remove makeup then 2nd to remove any excess & thoroughly cleanse the skin.

I don’t wear heavy makeup but I’ve recently started double cleansing since using a daily SPF to ensure my skin is completely cleansed. 😀
