Or is is too 'look at me' and best avoided?

Specifically thinking of this: www.oasis-stores.com/gb/clothing/dresses/sexy-lace-dress/065826.html?dwvar_065826_color=36&position=155&cgid=dresses#page=13&productsMoved=2&hideFeatured=false&start=155&categoryID=dresses

If it makes any difference - wedding is a civil ceremony at a vineyard and not a church ceremony.

That’s a perfectly respectable dress even for a church wedding.

It’s lovely OP’a vineyard wedding sound picturesque and lots of fun!

I think you’d have to know the wedding couple to decide. It’s a very nice dress and is lovely for a vineyard, but I think soft pastel colours are more traditional. Are the couple very traditional? You don’t want all eyes to go immediately to you in photos.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/04/2018 04:30

I think it's fine. It's a lovelyvdress.

Poppins2016 · 20/04/2018 04:38

That's a lovely dress - I'd wear it to a wedding.

Graphista · 20/04/2018 05:26

Gorgeous dress I wouldn't see a problem at all.

I've even sold a red wedding dress. The bride was wife 2, not ow previous marriage ended ages before. But future mil adored ex DIL and had decided future DIL2 was a "scarlet woman" so bride went "fuck it I'll give you a scarlet woman" Grin

No idea if the marriage lasted but the dress was amazing Wink

Nellyphants · 20/04/2018 05:44

That’s a lovely dress, not too short, nothing hanging out. Very suitable for a wedding

kissmelittleass · 20/04/2018 05:55

Beautiful dress just what I would go for! I would wear it no problem I thought the only colour off limits to a wedding was white? I have seen red at weddings many times my sister in law wore similar to the last wedding we went to. Go for it op it's perfect!

Pictureiswonky · 20/04/2018 06:07

Absolutely. It's gorgeous. I wore red to my own wedding so I clearly don't have a problem with it

BikeRunSki · 20/04/2018 06:12

Is the bride Chinese by any chance? In China, brides traditionally wear red.

MrsGB2225 · 20/04/2018 06:21

Perfect for a wedding

MinesaPinot · 20/04/2018 09:20

Yes, of course you can. I've worn it several times to weddings as it's actually my Go To colour and I feel comfortable and confident in it.

That is a great dress and I am deeply envious of anyone who could wear it. At my shape and size I would look like a badly upholstered sofa....

Back to the weddings, the only time I would think twice about it would be if I was going to a Chinese wedding as BikeRunSki mentions, or an Indian wedding as I believe the brides wear red, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

DanaScully83 · 21/04/2018 00:34

Thanks everyone. Looks like I am sorted then :) My partner is an usher so we know the couple well - red is not part of their theme. I mentioned the dress to my MIL and she said 'you can't wear red to a wedding' so it put me off a bit!

Now I just hope it fits :)

Yes it's lovely
Graphista I think a red wedding dress is fantastic.
I can't think of anyone who looked better than Paula Yates on her wedding day when she worn a beautiful red wedding dress.

Mulberrysilk · 21/04/2018 08:02

I saw a weddings in hello magazine where the mother of the from white red and it really did look like an attempt to update the bride. If you're not part of the bridal party then wear it, its lovely. If you'll be standing next to the bride in photos then don't.

Fluffiest · 21/04/2018 08:05

That's a perfect wedding guest dress. Love it

AuntieStella · 21/04/2018 08:09

Yes, of course you can wear red - unless the wedding is in China or anywhere where a bride traditionally wears red

Tattybear16 · 21/04/2018 08:26

Yes you can, and it will look gorgeous much better than that god awful nude colour which looks awful in photographs. I love a different look at weddings, everyone normally goes for pastel colours but a different colour or a vintage style is much nicer. Wear it and enjoy it, ignore your mil she’s not wearing it. Love the dress you’ve picked it’s stunning.

Red can be hard to match, so if you’re choosing a hat or fascinator match it to your bag and shoes. Enjoy the day.

Nellyphants · 21/04/2018 08:38

I want that dress now....I don’t need another dress

LostInShoebiz · 21/04/2018 09:01

Older people, particularly elderly mothers, have a lot of rules for weddings. In the last few years I have been warned off: wrap dresses (too casual), jumpsuits (disrespectful), green, blue (what bridesmaids wear apparently), bare shoulder, bare knees, flats, green, cleavage, red, black, white (despite it being expressly requested), clutch bags (disrespectful: how will you take your sugared almonds home or carry DH's things).

sonjadog · 21/04/2018 09:31

I have never heard of red being a problem at weddings. Is it a thing?
