Frickin hairy forearms!!

getawholeyearof · 17/04/2018 20:35

I am pale skinned blonde, but blessed with very hairy legs and arms..hmm! Obviously legs I wax, however my forearms I have spent years bleaching as they get quite dark and I look a little like a gorilla. I am finding hte bleach is not working so well anymore, and also that the hairs on my arms have been getting really long in old age (I'm sounding more attractive by the minute here aren't I!). So I thought I would have a little trim of my arm hair with scissors... but the fuckers are growing back again and looking really rather awful. I don't want to shave as that increases growth. I don't want to wax as don't want stubble.... is the only option bleach and trim?!

I got laser, which is suitable if you have dark hair on pale skin. Prior to that I used wax as it lasted longer than shaving.

Veet! Works a treat :)

TacoFlavouredKisses · 17/04/2018 20:44

I have thick blonde hair on my arms and used to have (full arm) waxes but have given up and am trying (and mostly failing) to embrace the fluff... but I found with waxing that the stubble wasn't too bad compared to shaving. I'm considering giving epilating a go...

getawholeyearof · 17/04/2018 20:44

It's not really dark though, but it is brown, rather than blonde. Would that work?

I shave mine. It’s a myth that it increases growth. I really do recommend shaving!

user1484167681 · 17/04/2018 20:45

And the hair doesn’t come back stubbly. Takes 5 mins, inexpensive, do it in the comfort of your own home. Can even get on with other stuff whilst waiting for the 5-10 min wait to elapse. (I promise I don’t work for them! :D )

getawholeyearof · 17/04/2018 20:46

Veet... what about when it grows back.... stubble? Doesn't that just make it thicker and darker too like shaving?

When I've shaved my legs def grows back thicker and darker

No, Veet doesn’t affect the thickness/colour at all, in my experience. Waxing is preferable, in that sense, but then you have to wait for a certain amount of regrowth. You can use hair removal cream as often as you like.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 17/04/2018 20:51

I was mine - I don't get stubble, I've been doing it for years and it grows back much more finely.

This will sound weird but.... I epilate mine really quickly (run it over fast and lightly over the top and take longer on the side bits where the longer ones are). It gets rid rid of the long ones and sort of leaves a sprinkling of lighter and softer hairs so it looks really natural. Grows back unevenly and slowly so no stubble.

Growingboys · 17/04/2018 21:36

Laser. Only way. Expensive but worth EVERY PENNY

Chipsahoy · 17/04/2018 21:50

Veet. Been doing it every six weeks in spring and summer for yrs. Grows back soft and the same as before.

user1494670108 · 17/04/2018 22:12

My very hairy friend found that exfoliating daily meant they didn't grow long

Paintbox · 17/04/2018 22:34

Shaving doesn’t encourage growth. How could it? It jut blunts the end of the hair making it appear thicker. But it’s not. Shaving can’t make your skin grow more hairs.

Lifeaback · 17/04/2018 22:48

I get mine sugared. Kind of like waxing only more gentle on the skin as it's pulled in the direction of growth rather than against. It's also natural (literally a paste made of sugar and lemon) and doesn't hurt as much as waxing. If you don't have a salon that offers it near you, it's really easy to make your own and there's loads of tutorials on YouTube

dungandbother · 17/04/2018 23:25

Make sure you get LASER and not IPL

I'm blond ish and blue eyed. Have had laser. Worked perfectly on bikini, underarm and legs. All except my knees and tops of front thighs. Reckon the hair is 'too blonde' there.
It grows very fine there now and I shave that area but the rest is gone!

velourvoyageur · 18/04/2018 06:51

My arms are hairy, light but lots of it...it's not that bad is it, to have hairy arms? I mean does anyone notice it on others and think 'ew' or indeed anything?
It's not like it's even 'necessary' to avoid being a social outcast or anything, we don't see ads about women removing forearm hair (as opposed to removing leg hair)...
Promise I'm not being judgy, just wanting to not add to the list of things about our appearance we have to stress about esp. when it's not really a thing! Like freckles, you might not like them on yourself, but everyone else either doesn't care or thinks they're cute.

Lndnmummy · 18/04/2018 07:08

I wax mine myself at home. Takes 10 minutes

Mrsx79 · 18/04/2018 07:12

I have fairly dark hairy arms... can't say ibe ever bothered to do anything about it. Who could be arsed? It's fairly normal.
Also once you start it's impossible/ difficult to stop... bad enough having to do legs etc

VanillaLatteAndCake · 18/04/2018 15:12

I also epilate. Works really well. I do exactly the same as Poirot, lightly so that the hair is thinned out really. No stubble, no strange re-growth. You can't even tell.

PasDeDeux · 18/04/2018 15:14

I just shave mine, 1-2 times a week in the winter and more like every other day in the summer!

BrendasUmbrella · 18/04/2018 16:00

I keep a razor in the shower - a quick run over my forearms and underarms takes 15 seconds. I don't see the point in any more cost or inconvenience when it's so easily taken care of!

I LOVE my hairy forearms
