Year in and year out I am caught out around this time of year by it going from scarves and gloves to vests and floaty dresses like THAT.

I am a pretty average size, still carrying tummy chub from baby. 5’7”, very fair and size 12.

What do you wear in summer for

a) work - pref corporate
b) leisure - including handling of unkempt toddlers

Anything...any help you can give gratefully received. I just literally have the “dress for summer” chip missing...

What a great post @whyteknight and a lot to muse over.

Going to go into town today and have a shop. There are certain things I will have to try on as I have a thumping bulge from 2 csections in 18months.

Which leads me to my next question...

...what are the best tummy control knicks? I’ve heard mixed stories namely the Spanx ones themselves being beasts for rolling and ending up making the wearer look like a link sausage

What are you going to try on?

I live in dresses in the summer - they're much cooler than skirts and tops - however I don't have a tum (I have a fat arse and thighs instead!), so you may find that a skirt with a flattering top is better. If you have good legs, show them off (I wish I did, because I would).

As for sandals, I love Moda in Pelle and always get complimented on them. They do loads of styles and I find them comfortable (even with an arthritic toe joint). Some are glam and smart for work or going out, others more casual www.modainpelle.com/sandals-c29

I know Boden often gets slated on here, but their workwear is, I think, smart, practical and not that expensive www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-workwear-range#nav

Re: spanx, etc. They are great for looking good, but they are all made of sweaty, nylon type fabrics. So they're great in winter when you're cold, less so in summer, and I always worry about yeast infections too. Go to John Lewis and try some on, is all I can say and see what you think.
