Skin, oily t-zone, cleansers, masks, moisturisers that are affordable...?

As I'm getting older I seem to have a much more oily T-zone, with large pores, some blocked. I haven't got s big budget, but really need a good cleanser and face mask or something? I've tried Superdrug hot cloth cleanser, it made me spotty. I quite like body shop camomile oil cleanser, but not sure if it's helping my oily t-zone. I used to think I had dry skin, but now I just don't know! I am 45, by the way. Hormones are definitely changing my face, but I feel really unhappy with my skin, often getting spots nowadays.
I feel skin needs nourishment but not too much oil if that makes sense. How can I rock out what my skin is like now? Only way I know is to go to beautician for facial but then they use lovely expensive products that they want to sell to you, which I can't afford Sad Please help me?! Lol.

Shills black head mask is fantastic and i find any clay based mask good for oily skin (no particular brand or price though currently using l'oreal).

Do you use the hot cloth cleanser on its own? That used to break me out but now I use it to double cleanse in the evenings. So take make off with the hot cloth cleanser and then wash again with a gentle cleanser. In the morning I just use the cleanser.

I use Cetaphil for oily skin but not everyone gets on with that. I believe La Roche-Posay products are good too although I haven't used it so can't comment on which one to go for.

ScribbleWibble · 17/04/2018 15:28

Oh, I can also recommend something like the Nip Fab glycolic pads, I buy them when they go on special offer. You'd need to add a good SPF to your day time routine though.

Lastly, I've also recently bought the No7 facial cleansing brush which has been a major game changer for me. But again, they're not for everyone.

Moonandstarsandback · 17/04/2018 18:06

Thanks granny. I'll look into a cosy type mask. How often would you advise to use it?

Scribble, I'm not using the hot cloth cleanser from superdrug at the moment. But did use alone. What gentle cleanser would you recommend alongside it? Also I remember there being different types of Superdrug hot cloth ones?! Maybe I didn't get the best one! No idea which one it was now!

I definitely don't feel a cream cleanser you rub on and take off with cotton pads alone makes my skin feel clean! I'm tempted by the Liz earl hot cloth cleanser but that's slightly out of my price range and worried it may no be suitable and then I've spent lots of money!!!

What is cetaphil? And glycolic pads?! Will google the no7 brush as well.

Thank you. Any advice on moisturisers? Guess my skin is combination?!

Clinique pore refining stuff is all excellent, soap and glory pore primer is very very good (cheap and often on 3 for 2)
Simple blue moisturiser works for a lot of people but isn't quite enough for my oil slick.
Counterintuitively lush ultrabland (heavy oil based cleanser) also helps. I don't always moisturise after and stick some primer on. Their moringa primer is also good.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 17/04/2018 18:19

Ultrabland I take off with a hot flannel

I use the Natural Radiance hot cloth cleanser from superdrug to remove make up, I don't use it if I am not wearing it. Cetaphil is the face wash I use afterwards. I love it, I have super oily skin, huge pores and breakouts and it does a good job. My friend on the other hand didn't get on with it at all.

The Nip Fab pads are a pad you swipe over your face and neck after cleansing, they contain an acid that helps to exfoliate your skin.

I use oil of olay lightweight fluid for normal/oily skin.

I'd recommend introducing new products slowly, rather than all at once. If you get a reaction then, you'll be able to pin point what's causing it.

Moonandstarsandback · 17/04/2018 19:12

I do sometimes react to products. I always thought I had sensitive/dry skin... but wondering now? I've googled how to test skin type and have cleansed now and not putting anything on for an hour! Then will test! I just need a good regime that my skin likes! Lol. Wonder if the acid ones would be too harsh if my skin isn't oily all over?

I'll have a look at ultra brand.

Do I did the test! My cheeks felt taught but my face felt clean after cleansing. After an hour my nose looked a tiny bit more oily than rest of face but when I wiped it with a tissue, no oil came off. My fave was a bit pinky. But I do have pink undertones I think... what does this all mean?!

Bee good honey and propolis hot cloth cleanser is very gentle. It didn't bring my DD out in zits but most cleansers do

Moonandstarsandback · 18/04/2018 17:49

Thanks goose.

Double cleansing is the way to go. It makes my skin softer, cleaner feeling and definitely pores are s bit clearer! Thank you scribble! I've not even changed products.

Just need to find a good moisturiser now Grin

Your skin could be dehydrated. I like Superdrug’s pure hydrating serum & that’s reasonable too. They also have a face wash and toner. Like someone else suggested try a face wash after the cleanser. Or if you want to spend slightly more both Avene and LRP are good. I’m soon to be 45 and my skin Is changing, it’s a pain in the ass !

trigger2 · 19/04/2018 08:24

Meant to say: if you get a hydrating serum I find it works best applied onto damp skin, not dry

Moonandstarsandback · 20/04/2018 11:30

Thanks trigger. I'll have a look at those.
