Why do my legs always look like this after shaving?!

It looks dreadful, and they always look like this, even with exfoliating beforehand, and then moisturising etc. Any tips? They were shaved today too!

I have no answers but mine do this too, so I'm intrigued!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 15/04/2018 16:40

I have the same problem but usually only on my calves (side and back below knee) and would love to get rid of it.

Are you dark haired as I am and I wonder if that makes it worse?

Elphabaisnotwicked · 15/04/2018 16:42

That is my calf but from the side.. it's not so bad on my thighs but they're not great either! I do have very dark.

My calves do this too Sad

MaverickSnoopy · 15/04/2018 16:45

Weirdly I have just got out the bath having shaved my legs and they look exactly like this.

Pretty sure they stay like this after being shaved too. However, I like to think it's not that noticeable when walking down the road for example.

Google Keratosis Pilaris.

yellowmellw · 15/04/2018 16:48

Are you wearing fake tan

Elphabaisnotwicked · 15/04/2018 16:52

No fake tan, no.. have googled keratosis pilaris but this is literally only when I shave my legs

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/04/2018 16:53

What about when you wax? I assumed it was because I am very pale and have dry skin.

rightknockered · 15/04/2018 16:56

I think it is just the roots of hairs visible under your skin. You could try waxing/epilating, or the only think that worked for me over time - a Lumea. It took a few weeks to completely work, but made a difference after two uses. Use it after shaving every two weeks until the hair cuts back. I only use it to go over every month now and my skin looks very smooth. I had forgotten it used to look like that.
In the mean time, try not to worry, no-one really looks closely at your legs, the only one aware of it is you

Hoddykins · 15/04/2018 16:56

This is why I don't have my legs out ever ☹️

I've never been able to get rid of it!

ReinettePompadour · 15/04/2018 16:56

I believe its damage to the hair cuticles when you shave against the hair growth. I was told to shave in the direction of the hair to prevent it but then it doesn't shave the hair off very close so pointless really.

Elphabaisnotwicked · 15/04/2018 17:01

I've not had my legs waxed for years, I really don't like going! I bought an epilator last year but I'm not so good at coping with the pain, I will try and persevere! It doesn't stop my showing my bare legs, but I would prefer that they don't look this way.

OP posts:
OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 15/04/2018 17:45

I use an epilator and mine still look like that

bettyboo40 · 15/04/2018 18:02

I was going to post about the exact same thing! Watching with interest

bettyboo40 · 15/04/2018 18:04

I've also got dark hair. It seems to be getting worse as I've got older. I don't wear skirts anymore

MrsMaryMooFace · 15/04/2018 18:08

Looks like you have keratosis pilaris as a previous poster mentioned. AHAs can help

TantricTwist · 15/04/2018 18:10

What razor are you using and is the blade fairly new?

BabloHoney · 15/04/2018 18:13

I have this too.. only thing that helps is using a new (or nearly new) razor each time I shave and lathering on aveeno cream straight after shaving.

statetrooperstacey · 15/04/2018 18:14

Use a Mach 3 and get them out in the air as often as possible. Wear shorts whenever possible. But the Mach 3 is the answer , don't piss about with pink and purple aloe stripped lady razors. They are rubbish and a con.

SparklyMagpie · 15/04/2018 18:15

Mine do exactly the same :(

OneThingAndThenTheNext · 15/04/2018 18:16

Mine also do this, always have. I’ve sort of just accepted that’s the way it is now!

4yoniD · 15/04/2018 18:17

I get a lumpy rash if I shave ankle up. Not if I shave knee down. Although it's long term rather than each shave (takes a week or two for the rash to come or go). Don't know if that might help?

Elphabaisnotwicked · 15/04/2018 19:23

It's not really a rash, it's just where the hair grows I think and it's visible, what is AHA please?

EweDoEwe · 15/04/2018 19:27

Do you mean the black dots in your skin?

Surely that’s just five o’clock shadow from shaving, you’re not pulling the hair out by the root like waxing, you’re chopping it off at skin level and if you’re dark haired that’s what’s left behind.
