Hotter Tourist sandals

pandorawithtreaclecolouredhair · 15/04/2018 10:46

Anyone got these?
Or are they just too Mrs Brady Old Lady?
Thought they looked comfortable for a sightseeing summer holiday with lots of walking involved.
Seemed not too unstylish for Hotter instant comfort!

It's Rome. You seriously don't want to be missing seeing everything you can because of a blister.
Tourists always wear shoes fit for - well, touring, and so they should. Bring something fancier for the evening if you want.

SukiTheDog · 17/04/2018 07:50

I’ve had these, in the past. They look fine with your shorts (you’re allowed to look like a tourist, when you’re doing tourism.... (sorry Can’t link)

Trying again....

I find Ecco sandals very comfortable for walking

UrbiEtOrbi · 17/04/2018 10:33

Fitflops definitely. Always comfortable from the very first wear. Good for walking round all day. Massive choice of styles ( tho some are hideous!)

Bringmejavabringmejoy · 17/04/2018 17:35

Are you 75?

Would it matter if she was?

NotMeNoNo · 17/04/2018 20:56

I have the M&S sandals linked earlier, they are pretty comfortable. But then I'm the kind of person who wears Birkenstocks and Teva hiking sandals.

Member212711 · 20/04/2018 16:14

I have just bought a pair of the Hotter sandals as recommended here - and they are a revelation and absolutely fantastic. In and out of the (air conditioned) shop in 10 minutes wearing them. So comfortable, and reasonably stylish, and manage to hide the worst bits of my rather ugly feet. Thank you!

Timefortea99 · 29/04/2018 16:23

I have just bought a pair of these. I don’t care if they look ugly, They are comfortable for all the walking I plan to do in the next few months. I think they look good with a bright toenail and cropped jeans/trousers. They were the only shoes in the shop that I would buy though.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/04/2018 20:44

I have a pair of these from last year. I don’t find them particularly comfortable, as the bit where the back strap attaches to the sole gives me blisters, as it chafes. Birkenstock or Naot are better.

Youradviceneeded · 29/04/2018 20:48

Buy what you like and what suits you. Some posters are really rude! You will enjoy your holiday far more with pain free feet than with blisters, not being able to properly enjoy the sights and experience.

LilaoftheGreenwood · 29/04/2018 21:12

This is all a bit silly about the fugliness, there clearly are very dated things in Hotter but this isn't one of them, I really doubt you'd see a 75yo in the zebra print. I would avoid the sand colour tho, that does look a bit orthopaedic.

I'd also consider these in the leopard print (esp with shorts and esp with anything khaki, which I wear a lot of in the summer):

Am also looking at these at the moment:

LilaoftheGreenwood · 29/04/2018 21:14

Re obviously dated things, for example these!!! www.hotter.com/gb/en/florence-sandals-florcs?fit=&colour=Soft%20Beige You're not telling me the Tourist sandals are aimed at the same people as those beauties.

FrabjousDay · 29/04/2018 23:05

I bloody love Hotter. I wear quite a few of their shoes and I get compliments from decades younger co-workers.

They just don't expect to see me in old lady shoes so they have their fashion goggles well and truly on.

CakeNinja · 29/04/2018 23:09

I did the whole of Rome (okay, I was there for 4 days!) in flip flops and Toms - am always utterly flabbergasted when people say you absolutely must have practical and ugly shoes to traipse about Rome! It’s bloody fine Confused

pandorawithtreaclecolouredhair · 30/04/2018 08:39

I don't like the "Hotter" name being emblazoned on the sandal, even if it's one of the nicer styles.

I bought the Hotter Tourist sandals last year in a gorgeous soft silver colour. Super comfy, wore well and looked great. Can't wait to get them out again this year. Also coveting the zebra print ones from this season, but can't really justify another pair of sandals.

I think the key to this style is to avoid traditional black or brown as the straps are quite chunky and in those colour IMHO the sandals look a bit clumpy. Especially if you don't have the keys of a gazelle.

Ignore the Hotter haters though. If you look past the orthotic stuff you will find some real gems. I lived in a leopard print pair of Tara canvas slip-ons last year and still going strong this year. Another bonus: because they don't market themselves as 'trendy' there prices are very reasonable too!!

Not sure if I have or if I haven't

The Zebra print ones are nice and funky. Can you actually see the “Hotter” branding on them? That’s the only thing that would put me off. I like chunky shoes, boots and sandals. I’m never going to be a spindly stilettos or narrow pointy shoe type of person; you like what you like...

IrmaFayLear · 30/04/2018 13:23

My mum used to be Hotter’s best customer, so I associated the with the “comfort” shoe (and what’s wrong with that?!). But I recently saw some of their shoes and they look very nice, not Sunday supplement at all.

I own a few pairs of Clarks’ Unstructured sandals for summer walking (as opposed to standing!) as they are the only sandals that don’t rub and cause terrible blisters. I simply don’t understand how anyone can even look at a toe post. Must have rhino-like foot skin.

MinesaPinot · 30/04/2018 13:27

Despite the fact that I would normally pull out my own fingernails rather than go in a Hotter shop I actually rather like these in gold. Anyone got them and are they comfortable?

pandorawithtreaclecolouredhair · 30/04/2018 15:31

MP, those Sol sandals are nice, but I'm put off by the Hotter name being visible on the strap.
Just because of the brand association, really.

minesa I have those in soft gold - I bought them to go to a wedding a couple of years ago - I'd hurt my foot so hadn't been able to buy any sandals or nice shoes to wear, I'd been pootling around looking for something comfy but not found anything and all of a sudden it was the day of the wedding, I was in a completely different city from my own and still hadn't bought anything...

I left dh and the dc after breakfast, popped out and there was a hotter shop in the centre so made a bee line for it - had previously tried them on so knew they fitted ok. Luckily they had my size in stock (they hadn't where I lived, another reason I hadn't bought them sooner!) so I bought them and wore them to the wedding that lunch time. My feet were fine in them and while they don't look trendy on, they don't look hotter/grannyish either. And I was still wearing them with no problems at the end of the evening when a lot of those people with trendy beautiful fancy shoes and sandals had long given up and were walking around with bare feet as their footwear hurt them so much, even having worn it in.

I have some great gortex ankle boots from hotter that are very plain suede that I have lived in the last couple of years - they were so comfortable the first year I had them I bought another pair for this year too. As they have gortex in they have kept my feet dry throughout the wet wet winter we've had, and they're really comfortable and easy to wear.

last couple of years I've also had a light maryjane type summer shoe - 2 years ago they were excellent, incredibly light and comfortable. Tried to buy the same thing last year but they had 'improved' the design and made them much worse - they were heavy, half clad in suede and not as good. Luckily I was able to get a pair of the previous year's design that they still had knocking around, again, they were soooo comfy to wear that I am keeping my fingers crossed they will have gone back to the original better design!

I haven't had a chance to go to my local shop yet, but have seen their spin style on the website and think they look quite nice for spring when you're not quite ready for sandals but want something less than winter boots! Will have to go in and investigate...

And - having said all that - the most comfortable sandals I've had for years - have been some Teva Tirra ones, recommeded on MNet so many times I thought I'd try them on in a shop when I happened to spot them. They fitted and were incredibly comfortable. Not quite as clunky as walking sandals but with the same advantage of being able to go for a walk and get them wet and it not damage them, and also blast them with water at the end of the day so they don't get sweaty and smelly like sandals can - I can walk for hours - highly recommend if you're looking for a sightseeing sandal! Also worth shopping around for them as you can often get them more cheaply than the official RRP by shopping around, particularly if you don't mind having last year's colour (never bothers me - I either like the colour or not!)

really comfy Teva sandals

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/05/2018 08:50

Pandora - you would have to be peering at your feet, or grovelling on the floor to see that logo!

I have a few pairs of Hotter heels (they don't seem to do these so much these days) which I wear for work, particularly when I need to be on my feet. They look fine, and are super comfy.

My Mum is 85 and lives in jeggings and Birkenstock Madrids in the summer.

Timefortea99 · 01/05/2018 13:06

The Tourist sandal doesn’t have a logo. I checked my pair today. They just look like they would be made by Birkenstows - or whatever they are called.
