Sun damage

I’ve always been prone to brown freckley patchy sun damage marks across the top of my cheeks. I had IPL to remove them and was delighted with the results.

Then the sun came out yesterday. I wore a zinc-based factor 30 sun cream, a baseball cap and sunglasses. And despite all of this the little fuckers are back. AFTER ONE DAY!! Is there any reliable way of stopping them? Or do I have to stop being vain and live with the brown splodges?

Topical vitamin c. Any make will do also fade out cream.

You’ll need to invest in a factor 50, 30 isn’t enough against stubborn pigmentation (bitter voice of experience here...) Also make sure you’re using enough, you should be using around half a teaspoon, which is way more than you’d think!

I had the same and my dermatologist lady said they would come back in the end (annoying I paid lots to have it done). I wear SPF 50 and hats.
Combining with good skin care so vitamin c, acids, retinol helps but it drives me mad.

It looks like I don't look after my skin as I'm
so freckly but I wear SPF 50 (and a decent amount reapplied 3 times a day). It's frustrating

Look into Asian skincare, the Asian Beauty forum on Reddit has loads of suggestions.

I like the Snow White cream (has niacinamide in it) and I’m planning on trying the Elizavecca Milky Piggy retinol cream.

Wear a hat.

Get a higher factor sunscreen.

Sit in the shade.

Givemecoffeeplease · 19/04/2018 21:41

Thank you. Factor 50 it is.

Feel like a skin care novice. Don’t even know what retinols are!

Are you talking about freckles? They are adorable.Confused

Copperbonnet · 20/04/2018 02:06

Not freckles RoseWhiteTips.

Google sun damage.

If you live in the U.K. and don’t sunbathe you might not be affected but living in a hot climate, or not protecting your skin on beach holidays can lead to damage over time.

Hats, sunscreen, shade.

My very experienced / transformed my skin beauty therapist once told me ‘you are never going to be able to completely clear your sun damage. Do not believe anyone who tells you / tries to sell you otherwise. You can reduce with retinols but it will come back. Wear Factor 50 etc but don’t believe in the Snake Oil Hype’.

She’s correct. I have / am reducing with retinols but it reappears if I go in the sun without a hat etc.

violetbunny · 20/04/2018 10:52

Also don't forget to reapply sunscreen often, no matter what it says on the package. I use a mineral sunscreen powder to touch up if I'm wearing makeup.

Thanks all
