And came out with the cut & colour I asked for! This very rarely happens me! I’m strangely happy right now.

I'm a bit scared of mine. She gets carried away, last time, I went in for highlights and came out with a full colour. (Fortunately it looks lovely and I love it) this time she went at me with the trimmers. Again I like it but it's quite stressful!

I recently changed hairdresser and previously just had a trim and all over colour. This was my first big cut and highlights and I’m really impressed. I asked for the cut from the first picture and the colour from the second.

I can't even begin to imagine how elated you must feel. That's never happened to me. I've developed a hairdresser phobia as a result and for the last 5 years I only very reluctantly get a basic trim once a year at christmas. I can't cope with any more overpriced disasters!

I dread the day I start going grey and have to start having my hair coloured again.

mayaknew · 14/04/2018 22:01

I recently went to our local college to have my hair done by a trainee as I am so skint it's unreal.. anyway... I asked for a trim and got something so removed from a trim I can't even tell you !! It was awful. I had to let it grow out for 6 weeks and I'm going back on Tuesday for the lecturer to try and fix it. Although don't know what she's going to do she can't glue my hair back on Hmm

I'm so jealous op I hope you have somewhere nice to go to enjoy your new haircut !!! Wine

Stroller15 · 14/04/2018 22:03

That's a beautiful cut - I've had it pinned myself for a while! Congratulations! And hold onto that hairdresser for dear life!

lindyloo57 · 14/04/2018 22:23

i havent been to the hairdresser for over a year now for a trim, as others have said you go in for a trim and come out with a scalp. i do it myself now the ponytail trim, watch it on utube for a few times first. it come out ok.

Lucked · 14/04/2018 22:32

Lucky you. I do have a good hairdressers but he is always away when I need him. Went to a random last week and I vetoed the first colour she showed me because of the red/warm undertones she showed me another which seemed fine but I suspect she used the first because my hair looked exactly like it. DH commented on the red as soon as he saw me. Luckily I am incredibly laid back and don't really care too much but it is a bit annoying.

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/04/2018 23:02

I think the problem is that it's easy enough to learn how to cut hair, and then be good at that.

But that's only one part of the requirement.

You also need to be able to look at someone's face shape and work out what would suit them - AND also work with their hair type (fine, thick, coarse, straight, wavy, dry, etc, etc, etc).

And that's not even getting into colouring - and recognising which colours will look good on a person.

Most hairdressers I've come across can't do anything beyond cut hair. And that's never going to be enough to give someone a Good Haircut - for them.

EnidButton · 15/04/2018 03:39

Completely agree. I've had one good hairdresser in my entire life. One that moved far far away over a year ago. My hair hasn't been the same since.

Congratulations People you've found the style and beauty holy grail. Cling to them. Offer up your first born. If they ever so much as vaguely speculate about moving away, sell your own home and move with them.

Only exaggerating a tiny bit. They're gold dust.

lindyloo57 · 15/04/2018 09:41

The completely agree with last two comments once you find a good one stick with them forever.

rightknockered · 15/04/2018 11:12

That is gorgeous! I'm thinking of going just below shoulder length for summer, my hair is just too long at the moment. Am just starting to trust my new hairdresser enough to chance it. Bet your hair looks gorgeous OP

HildaZelda · 15/04/2018 11:38

I am honestly delighted for you OP. I have literally come home from hairdressers and been in tears before.

soggydigestive · 15/04/2018 13:15

Marvellous. I always get given layers, even when I say I do not want layers. Angry

SukiTheDog · 15/04/2018 15:16

That’s wonderful! I’ve found a new hairdresser who, the first time she did my high/lowlights, really took time to discuss what I wanted to achieve long term and the cut is just a trim so, no great discussion there. Last time, she only put one colour in, instead of three. Now I’m kind of all-one-shade, which I really didn’t want.

Do you think they get complacent and have a “that’ll do, she’s a customer now”. I won’t go back.

SukiTheDog · 15/04/2018 15:17

Missed of the word ‘attitude’ ...

DBoo · 15/04/2018 17:02

I don't know what it is. I showed mine photos of a well known celeb. She is familiar with celeb loves the colour etc. I part trained as a hairdresser so know a little bit.

She talked about how we would work towards the look. I queried a part of it and she explained a toner would sort it at the end. I specifically asked not to colour the ends. They didnt need it and she assured me she wouldnt becuase they didnt need ir. Then did it anyway. Didnt tone it. I walled home woth stripey ginger spice esque highlights. Walked home looked in the mirror and cried. Hadnt been to hairdressers since august as can never afford it. Gutted!

SukiTheDog · 15/04/2018 18:30

That’s it, isn’t it? It’s SO bloody expensive. And I paid two very different prices .... first time with 3 different shades....£140. Second time, just one pot of colour mixed in her bowl....£163. No idea why and was so disappointed, I didn’t bother to ask.

I’ve bra strap length hair, straight, no layers. Can I “ponytail” cut myself?
