Soolantra for roseaca ..any experience ?

theredjellybean · 14/04/2018 14:37

I had very calssic roseac for last 9 yrs, flushed cheeks and tiny pimples on nose mainly, nose got quite red and bumpy. I tried topical metronidazole gel that didnt really work and my skin got sore, so swapped tto lymecycline and it cleared it brilliantly.
if i ever forget or miss a dose i get an outbreak and it lasts a week or so before i get it back under control
I have cut out triggers like lots of alcohol etc
last 2-3 months though i have had recurrent sore pimples again on my nose, over the sides mainly and both cheeks patchy red/broken vessels and on both cheeks high up on outer bit of cheek bones i have two patches of red papules, they feel like harder lumps and often dont have any pus in them.
I am menopausal and had noticed a cyclic link to the roaseaca but last 4 weeks it has just been much the same all the time and especially in the mornings my skin looks dreadful.
I also ahve dry flaking areas on forehead and in eyebrows ..sigh...
i use la roche-posay xenthelios light fluid spf 50 every day and that has never caused problems before.
i rarely wear make upand have not changed any products, but now when i do my foundation clogs in my nose pores and sides of nose were skin is dry and sore .
I am feeling really down about it all...( being menopausal making me feel old and crap)
so help ladies / gents...anyone had good results with soolantra ?

Me!! Amazing results, my nose was awful so red and spotty. Soolantra cleared it all up within two weeks. Over a year later I’m still using it and touch wood, my skin is still so good. I hope it works for you! Smile

@theredjellybean - I’ve used it! I think I’ve posted on here before. It’s amazing. I had laser privately at the Royal Free which didn’t help at all. The dermatologist I was seeing gave me a prescription to try soolantra - he said it should help with the bumps at least. I have brown skin so the redness was so obvious as well as itchy and sore.

Anyway, I used it for about a week and it was a bit redder and then the bumps seemed to come to the surface and when touched seemed to flatten. I hadn’t expected the redness to go but it did! Annoyingly I now have some pigmentation issues from the laser Hmm but there we go.

I used three tubes over about a year and a half - the gp let me get it on the NHS and it was a really good moisturiser even after the rosacea symptoms had long gone. It kills mites apparently and I found I no longer needed to take antihistamine when the itching and soreness was really bad.

I stopped last October when I got pregnant (sadly miscarried) and haven’t used it since. My skin hasn’t broken out since thankfully.

It's been great for me. Like you, I had previously found that only ABs did any good, but my skin is better on soolantra. I've posted these on a previous thread- before and after.

I’ve used it too (bought online) and noticed a real difference. Definitely recommend.

MustBeThin · 14/04/2018 20:41

I've used it but not consistently. I mostly have flushing, with the odd red bumpy spot.

First time I tried it for a week and I broke out in lots of little bumps all over my cheeks, they were also very dry and itchy so I stopped using it and 2 weeks later everything was fine and my skin looked the best it's ever looked.

Derm convinced me to try it again so I think i used it every other day for 5 days and then broke out again but nowhere near as bad and I ended up dry and itchy again.

Derm told me my skin was looking great again after so just to use it as and when I feel I need it. So I use it 1 day then 5 days later I break out again but less and less each time, then when it clears up my skin is really good again for ages. Then when it starts to play up I use it once again and repeat.

Derm doesn't understand why it works like this for me but told me to keep doing what I'm doing and signed me off.

Your skin looks beautiful strong 👌 how long have you been using it? Do you use it daily?

strongandlong · 14/04/2018 22:27

Thanks Must. I have lots of thread veins, so my skins not great, but at least its smooth-ish and not constantly sore!

I've been using it a year or so. My skin cleared up within a month or so of starting. I used it every day for a while and now every other day.

theredjellybean · 14/04/2018 22:29

Strong... Oh my goodness that's amazing. Honestly mine in minor compared to that.
But everyone thanks for replying I am going to ask gp for it. I am a doc and my own gp usually happily prescribes what I ask for.

Inhabe been using it for a couple of weeks after reading a thread on here about it and my skin first got worse but now seems to be getting better. I bought it from superdrug for £38 after doing the online consultation and uploading photos.

daffodildelight · 14/04/2018 22:50

Does it help with the redness/thread veins or is that permanent?

BWatchWatcher · 14/04/2018 23:59

I think you’re stuck with the veins :(

Murinae · 15/04/2018 09:10

It has definitely helped with the raised sore lumps and spots around/on my nose which was my main problem area. I now no longer look like Rudolph a d like I permanently have a cold.

EssexMummy123456 · 15/04/2018 09:27

I've been using it for 4 weeks, it seems have worked well for the spots not the redness so im looking into laser

gwhizz75 · 15/04/2018 11:16

Did it take longer than 4 weeks to work for anyone? I have type 2 rosacea, so little bumps and spots which I get in a patch on one of my cheeks and on my forehead. I’ve been taking oxytetracycline for 5 weeks now and using Soolantra for just over 4 weeks. I do feel like the bumps are less red and generally less raised but the difference isn’t that amazing. I’ve heard such good things about Soolantra that I was sort of expecting it to go completely (which may have been overly optimistic!).

I know you’re supposed to use it for 12 weeks before judging it’s effectiveness, so did anyone continue to see progress after week 4 or 5?

gwhizz75 · 15/04/2018 11:19

P.S Thanks so much for sharing those pics Strong. I agree that your skin looks fab now!

RosieMcRoseFace · 15/04/2018 11:30

I hadn't heard of this product so thanks for this thread. I looked into it and feel a bit put off by all the warnings.

I had a massive flare-up just over a week ago - really bad. I kept catching people on the train staring at me and then smiling kindly. I've been using apple cider vinegar to cleanse followed by Dermalex Rosacea treatment from Boots (which is green and very moisturising). It's really helped - I look much better now, almost back to normal. I'm planning to switch to a more natural moisturizer once I'm on top of it properly. I saw someone on YouTube recommending Neal's Yard Almond moisturizer so will probably try that next, with the ACV.

BWatchWatcher · 15/04/2018 12:17

If you’re suffering that much you should just get to the gp.
You are essentially wasting your money on snake oil.
You can get soolantra online from various pharmacies. It is excellent!

BWatchWatcher · 15/04/2018 12:18

Does anyone know the best type of laser treatment to get? Now that my skin has cleared I’d like to fix the veins too.
