Top and shoes to go with a skirt

Dd is going to an event, church then party afterwards
Not very formal but smart. She usually lives in black skinny jeans but totally surprised me yesterday by opting for a pale pink Ted Baker skater skirt. She needs shoes and top as well, there was one in Ted Baker that went with the skirt but it was all a bit matchy. She said she could see herself wearing the skirt with flip flops and a strappy top on Holiday so something she could wear with the skinny jeans as well would mean more wear.
She’s 13, size 6 and slim but with curves. Blonde with blue eyes and quite pale. Due to event being in a Catholic Church not too much flesh
It’s at the beginning of May so who knows how warm it will be
Any ideas?

Surprisingly Primark had some gorgeous ones, most seemed only to be left in 4& 6.

Is it her own confirmation?

I think a lot of the girls who wear ‘dressier’ than their usual style of clothes wear converse. It seems to make it less ‘matchy’ and they are shoes/trainers that will get plenty of wear.

The top would depend on the colour of the skirt but a plain white tshirt could work paired with a denim jacket?

Thank you
No, not her own confirmation.

Ah ok. I know converse are pretty typical for a confirmation. Without knowing the event, it is harder to advise. Eg a Godparent might be fine with the skirt, converse look but it would look rather unusual for a bridesmaid etc.

Sorry, should have said
We are guests at someone else’s confirmation ( male). In London and quite fancy. We aren’t catholics and I’ve asked the hosts about dress code and they’ve said whatever we are comfortable in but based on other church related events we’ve been to in this group it’s quite dressy
We aren’t catholic and don’t go to church at all apart from invites to weddings christenings etc
Think Converse would be a good idea with a white tshirt with possibly a bit of colour on. Denim jacket may be too casual but can look for something similar

If it is quite dressy, a pair of nude/pale pink sparkly type ballerina pumps might look ‘dressier’ if your DD is comfortable wearing them. Otherwise converse particularly new white converse would be fine.

The denim jacket might look too casual though as it is likely the kids being conferred will either be in dress suits or robes over more formal wear and she won’t want to stick out. It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed but a long sleeved plain white top tucked into a beautiful skirt, would look pretty chic. Add a cardigan in case it is chilly and to dress it up further if necessary. She can always take it off at the meal afterwards.

Adults tend to wear what they might wear to a church wedding for confirmations so conservative ((ish) but the teens and children get away with a more informal but still smart look.

To be honest, I’d say your guests would be mortified to think you were troubled about what to wear. All they really want is to celebrate their son’s sacrament with their friends.

Thank you thebirthdayparty
I am probably being a bit paranoid about looking scruffy
Most guests are London City types and we are from oop North so that might be why I’m so worried but our friends are very lovely and are delighted that we are making the journey South for it

Navy short biker jacket with navy pumps would look really lovely with a pink skater skirt. What sort of budget are you looking at ?

Hoppinggreen · 15/04/2018 11:12

Yes, navy would look nice
She suits blue
Skirt was quite expensive so don’t want to spend much more but another £100 or so would be ok
Funny how things have changed - not even considered what I might be wearing, kids outfits more important!!

Do you wear dress OP? A knee length or midi dress, with a pair of heels and a bag would be perfect.

Hoppinggreen · 15/04/2018 15:20

Thank you
I will show her that
She has a navy blue short sleeve cashmere jumper from Ralph Lauren ( TX Max) that looks nice with it so it might be that and navy smart trainers
