Flat 'trendy' sandals for bunions

Hi,
I was browsing through an old thread on the same topic but many of the links were out of date.
I'm 44, have had bunions since my 30s (hereditary!) I live in jeans and trainers, Adidas, Superga, converse type of thing. Am looking for open toed sandals, that have a strap to cover the widest part of bunion but I don't want them to look like special sandals for bunions iyswim!
Have looked at some sites but they are very expensive. I'm on a budget but can stretch to £40.
Is anyone in the same boat? I always end up wearing ballerinas in 'summer' but they are really bad for feet in general. Thanks a million

Have you tried anything like these from Schuh? I've seen very similar ones elsewhere too: www.schuh.co.uk/womens/schuh-barcelona-natural-sandals/1740311420/

I also have hereditary bunions (started developing at age 10 or so Sad )so have never worn anything pointy, strappy or with heels. I got these ones last year and they were very comfortable.

They seem to be everywhere, often described as Menorcan sandals: www.soletrader.co.uk/sole-toucan-sandals/toucantn/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx5y45NK82gIVTBbTCh0C_giaEAQYASABEgLZtfD_BwE

Thanks very much exepat I'll have a look at the links ☺

I love the look of those but they were too narrow for my buniony foot ...I could wear saltwater sandals though ...however I'm not sure they are any better for your feet!
I've been recommended fit flops too but they are pricey! So am watching for ideas too

I also have hereditary bunions and have been advised by my podiatrist to wear a slight heel (about an inch) and found it far more comfortable - might be worth trying different styles. Shuropody is currently my first port of call for sandals.

Naughty1205 · 15/04/2018 17:22

Will check out shuropody, never heard of it! I have heard that an inch heel is the best for feet and back. I suffer with both! Pain in the arse having feet like this!

Before i had my bunions operated on, i swore by new look wide fit sandals. They looked good and were comfortable. I got loads, leather, stretch, mesh, etc.. The most comfortable were the ones with straps 1” wide or bigger.

Fifthtimelucky · 15/04/2018 18:00

Have you looked at Fit Flops?

Naughty1205 · 19/04/2018 16:30

Thanks for all the replies. Still dithering and looking!

I saw these on a lady at the beach today and they looked perfect for bunions (which I have). They look frumpy online but in RL she carried them off with a bit of an Indiana Jones rugged vibe. I’ve ordered some! www.marshallshoes.co.uk/womens-c2/sandals-c11/josef-seibel-womens-lisa-01-bark-leather-velcro-sandals-73715-95-234-p954

I have bunions and (not sure if they are called 'little toe bunions' or something else) lumps under my little toe joint-so my feet are 'diamond shaped' iyswim (combination of genes and wrong footwear)

I have the menorcan sandals- really comfortable and though flat are ok for wearing all day, and look good, in my opinion, with trousers/jeans/bare legs. Seasalt sometimes have them on sale 2 for £ 40 think
I also got some strappy toe-post sandals from moshulu- the toe bit goes over the whole of the big toe joint, covering the bunion- cant remember the model name, will look up- these can look casual and a bit more 'dressed up'.

both of the above come in different colours and are leather, so feet stay comfortable, and they kind of mould to your shape after a couple of wears

Naughty1205 · 20/04/2018 10:58

Really liking Seasalt!

What exactly are bunions? I have a pronounced bony bit on the bit by big toe joints but not sure if these are them or not. I certainly find an awful lot of shoes uncomfortable as that part of my foot is much wider than the rest. Looks ugly, I hate my feet and dread getting them out im summer!

Naughty1205 · 22/04/2018 08:56

Honey I would say that's what they are alright. I dread getting my feet out too so try to distract from the bunions with a home pedicure and nice painted nails. I spent a few hours shopping yesterday without dc and I couldn't find anything! I'll have to order online but not ideal as really need to try sandals on to make sure the strap covers the wide buniony part! The joys!

Fly London does loads of bunion covering styles.

Not f!at by any means but you will see how these river island tassel sandals hide the bunion i have while looking stylish!

Similar situation to the OP, I'm early 40s with ugly bunion feet (hereditary) so sympathise with the mission for footwear.

I have bought these - they are not especially 'trendy' but look okay, are comfy & hide my ugly trotters somewhat

And these:

Pikolinos have some nice shoes so worth a look on their website - free returns also.
Good luck!

I've just bought a pair of these and really like them
