Invisalign people - how did you have your teeth shaped after treatment?

I have finished my treatment and am about to have a final scan so my dentist has said my teeth have to be 100% finished and shaped to how I want them. I have read that the front two teeth should ideally be longer then the rest and that having all the bottom of my teeth flattened can make them look false but can't find any guidance on what I should do. I am happy (ish) with final result but will never be accused of having a Hollywood smile so do I just have the minimum amount of shaping done?? Help!

There were a couple of teeth which had been wonky so the edges had worn over the years and when they straightened up they were pointy and weird and kept clashing with my top teeth. They straightened the edge. Is it something like that or is there some kind of extra shaping they're offering?

Actually I'd never thought about it but my bottom ones are the same height but I think we were limited due to the wonky ones needing to be trimmed. They don't look false though.

I think after potentially having your teeth trimmed at the sides (or at least some of us need that) it's best not to remove any more enamel than necessary unless you have strong feelings about the shape. If you have no strong feelings maybe they already look great - ?

I didn’t have mine shaped after the aligners. It was never mentioned - I can’t see what I’d have changed so I guess I didn’t/don’t need it.

Interesting, maybe i should just leave well alone. I'll have a think

Do they mean refinement? I think this is where you have additional alligners st the end of treatment to perfect your smile if there’s any teeth that haven’t moved completely...

No i've had refinement, it's just any smoothing off of teeth etc

I just let the dentist smooth them off. We chatted a bit about it and continued until I was happy / she thought we ought to stop.

I haven't had invisilign or other braces but about 10 years ago asked my dentist to smooth the bottoms of my front two teeth where they were jagged feeling when I ran my nail along them. Also got her to file my canines down slightly so they weren't as pointy. She went very carefully and gradually so it was a subtle difference.

It was a spur of the moment thing and in hindsight I was lucky she knew what she was doing. Could've gone terribly wrong. Grin

So if he's asked about it and you have time to think it through then presumably he's experienced enough to advise you if what you want wouldn't look right. I'd definitely err on the side of caution though. Bare minimum.
