Hair loss - my beauty nightmare.

My hair is receding and emotionally thin in the corners of my forehead. I'm really upset about it.
GP is going to test my iron and thyroid etc.
I've lots of stress in my life. Down about it, having watched my mother lose her hair in her 30s (related to a medical condition I don't have).

GP thinks it's probably hormonal. I'm perimenopausal.

My GP told me to take a silica supplement. It made a massive different. Within weeks I could see little hairs growing back.

Wait for the rest results. If it's a deficiency it's fixable.

Mine has thinned but I'm hoping it's because I'm anaemic but my right eyebrow has pretty much disappeared but I have found that my hair has dropped less since using Plantur 39 shampoo, it's a hideous thing to experience and I hope it's something easily sorted for you.

IROn needs to be above 70

I have a patch of super thin hair on one side of my head, it refuses to grow and I resort to backcombing it to make the hair seem thicker. I use a leave in treatment gel called Follicle Plus from Hairfix and it's made a bit of a difference. I had better results from it previously but I seem to have stopped using it and my problematic patch seems to be worse again.

Notwellbitch · 11/04/2018 04:44

I have similar and due to my hair being damaged by bleach, breakage was making it much worse on one side in particular. Started taking hair and nails vitamins and can see a difference after a few months. New hair growth is visible all over the top of my head and my hair looks fuller.

Stress is a known cause of hair loss so it could be related to that. The vitamins are worth a try though while waiting for test results.

Notwellbitch · 11/04/2018 04:51

Also, one thing I have noticed since experiencing this myself is that hair loss in women is very common but for some reason it's not really talked about.

Thank you for all your messages and product tips so far. Have to wait until I've had the blood tests but intend to max up on recommended vitamins, as appropriate after that. Hoping it's something fixable, having seen a close family member go through it for very different reasons.

Not a lot I can do about the stress. Have tried. Easter Sad

I've had similar after I had DS2. It was due to anaemia and stress (abusive ex, we split just after DS was born too). It took a long time to get my iron levels back up but the hair grew back once I had. I found it hard to get it taken seriously as post baby hairloss is common. I have very fine hair anyway so it looked terrible - the corners of my hairline practically receded halfway towards my crown!

Whatever is causing it, there are so many treatments for hairloss now. Don't panic!

Hijacking - what are good vitamins for hair growth?

countingto10 · 11/04/2018 09:04

Just posted on the other thread, I’ve been using Perfectil Max and Spatone for additional iron (also taking L-theanine for sleep/anxiety issues). It didn’t happen overnight but my hair has now stopped falling out in handfuls and you can see new growth, it’s definitely thicker.

I am currently almost completely bald, and have lived with alopecia for most of my adult life. I don't underestimate how upsetting this is, and it's important to exclude easily fixable reasons - and many ARE fixable, so have hope. However, if you DON'T get a diagnosis, or that diagnosis is that this will be a chronic or deteriorating picture, my advice from the trenches would be not to drive yourself crazy looking for reasons, and not to spend a fortune on dubious 'cures'. My biggest regret is spending money on lotions and potions that I'd have been better spending on faux hair. I now have great hair every day and the minute I put on a wig I shed 20 years in an instant :). It feels awful just now, but hairloss nowadays is much easier to manage then it was. I hope though you have a nice, easy, treatable reason, because lots of people do. If you want a referral for a second opinion, your gp may not be sure whether to send you to an endocrinologist or a dermatologist. Unless something endocrine related appears on your blood test, I would ask for a dermatologist.

Roomba, did the crown grow back? Such stress for you on top of what you were going through with your ex. I really hope you're in a better place now. I have a lot of stress in my life. Sadly nothing that will disappear. I wonder whether mine is partly hormonal though as every few weeks, I feel soooo sad that it's at the level of grief.

MinaPaws · 11/04/2018 21:29

Mine started falling out in handfuls. It stopped when I took strong iron supplements. Not saying the solution is that easy for everyone but it wouldn't harm to start taking floradix or similar.

neverstraightforward · 11/04/2018 21:30

I love cherries, your post means so much to me. Thank you for taking the time to share from the heart. I watched a close family member lose all of her hair. It was so painful for her - and stretched years. Wearing a wig (she has several amazing ones) is incredible for her. As you said, it takes 20 years off her. I do agree it'd be better to pursue this in terms of financial investment rather than chase rainbows, if there is nothing conclusive. This stage is a difficult one. 'Looking forward' to having a blood test as I hope it'll be something easily remedied. I doubt it though. Think it's hormonal and stress related. Not sure that's fixable. We shall see.
Glad you've a fabulous wig. Bet people who aren't close to you are envious of your gorgeous locks!

I had inexplicable hair thinning in my 20s. Stupidly I never thought to ask for a blood test; I assumed it was stress. I now know I was pretty much anaemic back then. I take gentle iron and biotin every day and definitely feel like they help. Good luck; hair loss can be very upsetting. But like other posters have said, false hair now is amazing.

Sparklesdontshine · 12/04/2018 14:38

I have femal pattern baldness, so I receded at the front, and the rest is thin and spindly.

I have a hair system, google hairsolved or Lucinder ellery, they both fit them and have clinics all over.
