Swedish summer holiday wardrobe

V excited - have booked 5 days in Sweden in July in the western archipelago. Beautiful islands, temperature between 16 and 30 degrees, probably sunny but need to be prepared in case the weather changes.

I always look unglamorous and awful on holidays. I only have one frock I like and it gets grubby and I look like a scruffy teenager.

I want to look great with a capsule wardrobe that suits the vibe (cool, casual, a bit Cape Cod-y) of the place. Also having a night in a properly posh hotel with a Michelin star restaurant so need one glam frock.

Anyone bored and want to transform me? I'm 5'5", size 14 hourglass-ish, brown hair, generally suit blues, pinks and whites but tend to wear a lot of black and grey (think this is against the spirit of the much better look I am hoping for).

Imagine I'm the star of an advert for a really brilliant holiday in this place visitsweden.com/west-coast-archipelago/
Or possibly a non-murdering character in an Agatha Christie style mystery set there. What should I be wearing?

dont spend money on hush , IN rl its very poor quality

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2018 19:21

Is there such a thing as a nice waterproof?

Hush quality varies. I have some ruched skirts and a previous season's camo cotton jacket and they are excellent quality and have been well worth the money. The t-shirts look dreadful quality though.

Ok - slight derail here. If you're in Gothenburg, it might be worth making time for hedefashionoutlet.com/stores - I've been to the Stockholm version and it's an outlet with some great Swedish brands, such as Filippa K, Odd Molly, Peak Performance.

Really good Scandi brands to look out for here - and there - include Noa Noa (my favourite), Acne (despite the name) and Masai (can be a bit matronly).

Oh and - have good mosquito repellent to hand if you can. But West Sweden is also magical. I was in Fjallbacka last year and had to be dragged away by my fingertips.

Sounds great Overinvestor - I am apparently going to have to go to the Volvo museum so the shops can be my revenge.

We were near Stockholm for mid-summer a few years ago and while it was fab it was pretty cold and wet!

I brought a waterproof coat, girlfriend jeans (worn rolled up), one stripy maxi skirt, t-shirts, cardigans, trainers. I found Sweden very casual even in nice restaurants in the city

Make sure you take eyemasks so you can sleep! I would go tunic and capris.

When we went it was July, and the weather was very pleasant. We swam in freezing lakes, and hiked in shorts and bbq-ed on little stone bbqs they dot around the islands (taje your waste home). We also had a bit of rain in between.

I love Sweden and Norway, best holidays ever but feel we lucked out with weather so much!

I found the Scandi's very low maintenance and was happy in my shorts and hiking boots
