Hair coloured at hairdressers and I hate it

I really wanted a little beauty pamper as DH is away & I've been down, so booked a colour it at the hairdressers to cheer myself up as a treat....but it I really don't like it. My natural colour is dark brown (with a few stray greys) and the colour she put in is some sort of chestnut which has basically made it like a dark burgundy which might not sound too bad but I'm a natural look lass and it doesn't suit my very non sun-kissed pallor.

How many times do I need to wash it for it to fade a bit. Or do I have to wait 6 weeks and have a more natural dull brown colour out back in!?

Wash out, semi-permanent or permanent dye used?

susieguert · 10/04/2018 17:12

Actually didn't ask Confusedwould assume permanent as professionally done

Sometimes you just need to get used to the change. It can take a few days.

I had my hair ombréd, for the first couple of days I hated it and kept looking at the dark blonde ends thinking fuck I have to have it died back, I just don't like it. Now I love it.

How long ago did you get it done?

This morning

It always looks too full on until it's been washed 3 or 4 times. That's part of the reason that I stopped dyeing my hair and went grey, it's a 6/7 week rotation, 1 week looking too strong, 3 weeks just right, 2 weeks needing to be re-done. So only half the time happy with the colour.

Not sure if true, but I heard that clarifying shampoo strips coliur faster than regular. Hopefully somebody will know.

Head and shoulders will strip colour as suggested by my own hairdresser before dyeing my hair.

I agree with @BlackAmericanoNoSugar it does always look full on until it's been washed a few times. Wash your frequently & you will find it fades/tones down pretty fast.

I colour my hair monthly so I'm talking from personal experience.

Red tones are a total bastard to get out. Lots of washing with a Wash n Go or surprisingly baby shampoo will help damper it down.

Whatever you do though don’t try to colour correct it yourself at home. I speak from bitter experience there. Luckily BIL is a fantastic hairdresser and sorted mine. He has a mantra about colour I always remember ‘Tint won’t lift tint’.

Go back to the hairdressers and ask them to tone the red down
