Anything I can do for vertical lines?

All of a sudden my face has started dropping. There are vertical lines each side of my mouth and from nose to mouth. I don't have crows feet or any other lines so thought I'd got away with it! Is there anything I can do or use to improve them? I'm 39. Thanks.

You can have fillers in the nose to mouth lines but you do have to be careful as fillers are not risk free. You could benefit from some facial exercises as well to tone your face to help prevent any more sagging. Also if you smoke give it up as that will really age your face. Other than that I don’t think there is much you can do apart from the usual of eating healthily and having a good skin care routine. Hopefully other posters will be along soon with more advice!

Get fatter 😁

I've just lost a stone! Don't smoke so can't quit that!

Ah that's probably why the lines have just appeared!

Drinking lots of water may help somewhat. Long term use of retinoids may help somewhat. Scary lasering or peels (where your face looks burnt for two weeks) may help somewhat. Fillers will help temporarily but can go wrong. Everything else does nothing.

Ihatebuildabear · 11/04/2018 08:46

Still have a double chin though so unfair! What are retinoids?

Exercise for the platisma muscle might help the chin situation...face excercise all round maybe?

minipie · 11/04/2018 10:34

Retinoids are vitamin A derivatives, which seem to encourage skin cell renewal. Some anti ageing creams and serums have them in. They usually have retinol or retinoid in the name. Not suitable if you are pregnant or bf though.

Ihatebuildabear · 11/04/2018 16:03

Not pregnant or breastfeeding. Any particular products that are good?

Sorry, I don't know, I just know they are supposed to be good! I keep meaning to start using one but never get round to it. The S&B regulars will know though.

Thank you :)

It’s an idea to start with a low % of retinol as it causes sensitivity...bit itchy and irritated. There is a .1% retinol with squalene by The Ordinary and you could build from there. Always use at night and use a sunscreen in the day as it increases sun sensitivity

Ihatebuildabear · 11/04/2018 22:41

Do you have a link please? To that product.

If you scroll down it lists all the strengths and effects
theordinary.com/product/rdn-retinol-1pct-in-squalane-30ml

I didn’t look in the bathroom...I think the one I use must be the .5%!

Ihatebuildabear · 14/04/2018 10:20

Thank you

Japanese facial massage is supposedly helpful for lines - I do this (as a preventative) although not every day, using my cleanser as the massage lotion.
