How to style frizzy hair without heat

crazycatgal · 08/04/2018 00:04

I really want my hair to grow and I know that cutting out heat styling helps with getting healthier hair. My hair is wavy and slightly wild and frizzy - how the hell do I make it look nice without using heat?

My DD has curly hair & mine is wavy / fluffy. We've used Revlon uniq one leave in conditioner hair treatment for several years. Could not manage hair without it. Only calming conditioner that is light & non sticky. We like the red one, smells divine.

Should add, cheapest place I've found is Amazon prime

Look for the curly girl method on Facebook or google. No more frizz. 🙂

(And no expensive products or weird treatments, just a few ingredients to avoid.)

crazycatgal · 08/04/2018 00:28

Does the curly girl method work for hair that is more on the wavy side rather than curly?

Some curly girls would tell you that frizz is a curl waiting to happen.

I personally would just say yes. 😀

There’s a few ingredients that wreak havoc (sulfates, silicones, some alcohols etc) with frizz because they’re so drying, if you can avoid them, the frizz will vanish.

The FB group is brilliant. It’s called ‘curly girl conditioner only washing’ or similar.

Wash it and put conditioner then comb it in the shower with a wide toothed comb then gently rinse the conditionner out. Dry with a cotton t shirt and let air dry.

Coconut oil twice weekly 30mins or over night

Scalp massage, biotin and multi vit with iron and zinc

On youtube there are tutorials

Sleeping on a silk pillow or covering your head or pillow with a silk scarf

Plait hair at night for protection and waves next morning

Learn diffrrent protective styles that basically tie it up

I have extremely frizzy/coarse/crazy hair. I’ve half heartedly been doing by the curly girl method. I’ve been washing only with a 75p conditioner from wilkos as recommended by someone on here. I’ve ditched my pricey frizzcease serums and just use a bit of almond oil (which is what I use on my face too) and my hair is significantly less frizzier. I’m still working how to style it but I’ve had positive comments about it looking shinier and healthier (I just used to ghd before). Definitely worth a go!

AnnaMagnani · 08/04/2018 21:13

Curly girl definitely works for wavy hair.

CisMyArse · 08/04/2018 22:49

JosephMoseff can you please tell me a bit more about the scalp massage please?

Also, the silk scarf - do you wrap your hair in a turban or something?

crazycatgal · 08/04/2018 23:01

I've been reading about the curly girl method and I'm trying to get my head around the idea of washing with conditioner. I'll give it a try though.

I’ve been doing it for about two years, it works, my hair’s clean! (And shiney and frizz-free!)

The silk scarves are to protect your curls whilst you sleep if you don’t want to wash it every day, so turban or Hilda Ogden style or whatever will stay on.

crazycatgal · 08/04/2018 23:56

Where can you buy inexpensive silk scarves from?

Comb with wide tooth comb immediately before washing, only time i ever use a brush or comb. Wash as normal, condition the ends, do not brush or comb, towel try gently, light hair gel, dry naturally.

Amazon or eBay. You can buy actual sleep caps or just use a silk square.

And they don’t have to be silk silk - satin or similar works too.

Or the other option (which I use more than scarf) is to refresh in the morning with a water/conditioner mix spray. Works quite well and is a less wet than washing.

Cismyarse: i lay on bed, my head dangling on the edge of bed so my view is upsids down. This makes it easier to glide up and down my scalp. Either no oil or some almond oil on my fingertips. I start in little circles from my temples and forehead and work my way down to the base of my neck. Focusing on thinner/slow growth areas. I do it for 2 minutes twice a day. It should feel good and invigorating.

You can do it sitting up of course but my hair ends up getting tangled up (tailbone length hair).

Youtube has videos on head/scalp massage, too.

I dont know whether it was the blood circulation, relaxation or oil that helped but within 2 weeks i noticed baby hairs growth. My hair has become thicker allover.

I also took iron suppliments, multi vitamin with zinc and a hair and nails suppliment that has biotin in it (sainsburys own brand is just as good as perfectil).

gubble · 09/04/2018 19:30

I just wash my hair with cantu conditioner ,, use a curl cream and diffuse . You really need some sort of product to avoid frizz . My hair is very big and curly but if I just left it and brushed it it would be hideous .

I wash mine and condition with 3 minute miracle. I then towel dry my hair and rub a few squirts of kerastase oleo relax oil and comb with a wide tooth comb and leave to dry naturally
