Kids trainers - wet weather???

Not sure if I'm posting in the best place... a couple of years back I got a pair of trainers from the local Nike outlet store, which have a fabric-type mesh on top. What I didn't realise was that my feet would get rained on because of this annoying fabric mesh! So recently when I went to get my kids new trainers, I could only find what looks like similar type of design, with woven fabric. Do these let the rain in, or are they better than the ones I bought? I can't seem to find any 'normal' leather-type trainers... Any suggestions? Kids are 7 and 10 so aren't beyond splashing in puddles when the mood takes them...

I just telly my kids to save the puddle jumping for wellies. If they want to do this in trainers they can deal with wet feet.

You can get Superfit trainers with goretex which are waterproof. They are brilliant but not cheap. Get ours from local independent shoe shop.

Part of the trouble is I live in a very wet part of the country, so rain is almost guaranteed daily... which is why I get annoyed with my own trainers. Don't really want to inflict kids with trainers that just get their feet wet by letting in the rain – they can be surly enough to get out of the house at the best of times!! Grin

I have a similar problem and my kid’s trainers are unsuitable for wet weather too. I have old fashioned leather and mesh style ASICS (I jog) and have never had this problem.

I remember seeing some leather shoe/trainer online. They were quite expensive and the colours didn’t suit but they looked good.

Nike air force 1 are leather and waterproof.

DD used to have Geox trainers for that reason. Haven't bought them for a few years, as she is at high school all about the label now 🙄 although come to think of it, her Adidas Superstars are leather and fairly substantial, she wears them for school.

Bobux has nice leather style shoes but can’t find them in bigger sizes sadly.

Hi all - thanks for the replies, esp for the info about Nike Air Force 1. I'll see if our local outlet does them – otherwise will check out Geox. Thank goodness my kids are too young to bother about labels, last trainers were all Clarks ones! Grin

DD's Adidas cost less than her last pair of Clarks school shoes, which shredded her feet and weren't very practical. At that point we decided we were done forever with Clarks!

Have a look at somewhere like Warehouse for trainer/casual shoes.

Some are classed as waterproof but more weather resistant than the mesh variety

I shop online (and instore) at Deichmann. My three are currently wearing non branded leather and man made material trainers, with no mesh on them. So far they've survived trips to two wet and soggy country gardens this past week.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/04/2018 20:45

I think the mesh trainers are meant for running/athletics so the foot can breathe & also they are really light.

You probably need to look at leather trainers that arnt necessarily designed for sportspeople.

My 6 year old has Hummel high tops which are waterproof and withstand beach and puddles.
