Foundation that won't make me look like the undead pls

I am now of the age where ny eyes are a touch crepey and the laughter lines remain even when I'm not laughing.

Presently using Beautiful Movements 01 powder foundation with Benefit primer. This now makes me look like I've been embalmed.

Sometimes I use the Maybelline 01 mousse foundation. It's ok but I still get a touch of the "casket" about me.

To those of you with v fair skin but north of 40 please help. My skin needs to look alive, not dead!

Have you been somewhere and got colour matched by a pro or do you just buy off the shelf?

lillylop · 07/04/2018 09:03

Id recommend rimmel 'wake me up' foundation. Estee Lauder double wear is also good but expensive (approx £30) and is a fairly thick coversge

UncomfortableBadger · 07/04/2018 09:03

Try the Rimmel Perfect Match or Rimmel Breathable Lasting Perfection foundations in Porcelain, the lightest colour. Better than a lot of high end foundations out there.

I’m super pale and these are fair enough for me. The texture is also much lighter than the Maybelline mousse foundation but doesn’t skimp on coverage - probably a medium coverage, although the Breathable Lasting Finish is slightly heavier. Not overly dewy either (I have combination skin & don’t find that the Rimmel makes me look oily).

Following with interest.

Channel vitalummiere. I have been using it for years. Every so often I try something else and end up looking like something that has been dragged out of a canal.

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder with the Wonder glow primer is excellent. It’s light and gives a wonderful glow.

AnnieOH1 · 07/04/2018 10:40

I second Rimmel Wake Me Up. :)

thethoughtfox · 07/04/2018 12:38

Nars new longwear foundation. I'm crazy pale and use the shade Mont Blanc. It is a miracle product: thin, light, covers everything, stays all day and is glowing on the skin.

Ohyesiam · 07/04/2018 12:43

I second Chanel Vitalumierre. It really livens your skin up. Go to the Chanel counter and get the rep to do a couple of testers. Be undecided about which shade, and they will give you a massive tester of a couple of your possible shades which last for ages, so you can really see if it suits.

I go to Space NK and they colour match me according to season and whether pasty or tanned.

mocha78 · 07/04/2018 14:24

I’m nearly 40, very pale. My favourite foundations are the Bourjois cc cream (ivory) and at the moment I’m using Clinique Even better glow in alabaster. In the past I’ve also liked the Chanel one mentioned above and Clinique superbalanced.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/04/2018 14:54

Don't use foundation all over your face.
Get matched and only use foundation where you need it. Blend very well.

You can also mix a tiny drop of oil in your foundation so it looks more natural.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/04/2018 14:55

I use different foundations over the year, because I'm noticeably paler in winter,

TheLegendOfBeans · 07/04/2018 16:41

I did get colour matched at boots a while back but I swear the No7 ivory liquid foundation or whatever just dried my skin out.

THANK YOU about the tip for the Chanel desk, I will mist definitely be doing that including the undecided bit x

Some great recommendations for a cheeky lurker here. I'd definitely be needing samples if I'm going to blow £30+ on foundation. My eyes lit up when I saw rimmel but they never seem to do my shade of pale (at my boots at least).

DrMumMum · 07/04/2018 17:08

It's ridiculously expensive but I can't be without Sisley Phyto Teint Eclat (I'm 40 and a very pale 0+). I've tried so many foundations over the years and I've had loads of compliments since switching. Sisley counters are usually good for samples so worth a visit if you're passing one.

Jon66 · 07/04/2018 17:14

Have you tried a bb cream which is not as heavy as foundation?

nordicflamingo · 07/04/2018 17:17

Rimmel wake me up is great!
