How do you clean your make up brushes and how often do you do it? Do you buy a specific product to wash them with?

I just put a little shampoo on them and wash them every few weeks in warm water. Then I let them dry naturally.

Probably should be buying some expensive product to clean them with, but I don't really see the point.....

I wash mine about every week and use an anti-bac handwash. I use washing up liquid for my foundation brush cos that stuff is hard to remove! I put them in the airing cupboard to dry.

I use baby shampoo and a little hand held brush cleaner thing I got from Poundland for mine. Seems to do the job for my brushes without having to buy the branded brush cleaner gel.

Real techniques do a makeup brush liquid wash which is great and also a plastic type palette to scrub your brushes on which is so so good. I believe they sell them together or you can it separate. I got mine from Superdrug Smile

Shampoo, conditioner then air dry on some kitchen roll. I threw my sponges out as I found them unhygienic and had 2 spots on my cheek!

I clean my brushes religiously after every use.

  • I use a brush cleaning spray to lightly clean and sanitise them after each use - wipe dry with a tissue.
  • Every week or so, I deep clean them with gentle liquid cleanser and water, then lay flat to dry. Don't get the metal ferrules wet or dry them upright as this can cause the glue in the brush to loosen. I also do this after each use for foundation brushes (I have 3 foundation brushes in rotation).

Another vote for Real Techniques brush cleaner and the cleaning palette thingy. I used to use MAC brush cleaner but the RT is just as good and much cheaper!

I have a StylePro cleaner and dryer. A bit expensive for what it is but I love it! Have a look on Amazon or Boots for it.

I use a bar of plain Pears soap and rub them on the wet soap, rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. Then leave flat to dry, with the bristles hanging over the bench top.

A close friend is a fairly well known makeup artist and this is how she does hers!

These are great tips thank you :) I have been shampooing but no where near frequently enough by the sounds of it Blush

I have a cleaning palette thing. I was going to buy the Real Techniques one but they sell them in Primark for 2 quid, considerably cheaper. I use Waitrose pure shampoo, just because I had it and was not in love with it for hair washing. Otherwise baby shampoo.

I use he mac brush cleaner as I use Doublewear and it’s amazing at cleaning it off. Although reading this maybe I should try the real techniques one. I tried the no 7 and it was hopeless and not that cheap.

RT brush cleaner, followed by a spray of Serozinc if it's to hand.
