Blonding shampoo: who has tried it recently?

I have long hair which is either light brown or dark blonde depending on the season. In my early 20s (so 20 years ago) I used to colour it a bit blonder with a shampoo called Jerome Russell B Blonde. You would shampoo as normal, then leave it in for a couple of minutes, then rinse it out, and over a period of time hair would gradually become blonder. I liked this because I felt more in control than I would have done by bleaching it blonde all in one go.

Anyway, I looked for this shampoo recently, and while the brand still exists, the shampoo seems to have vanished. I did find a
John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Shampoo, which seems to be the only product of this kind available. Has anyone tried it? Any other recommendations, or shampoos to avoid? I'm not after a drastic transformation and I don't really have the budget to go to a salon (though I am well overdue for a trim).

Bleach London is a good place to start. They have all kinds of dyes, toners, shampoos to mess about with your hair colour.

John Frieda does a spray that works just like Sun-in - it's very subtle but you can make it stronger by using a hairdryer. It's not drying like Sun-in either.

John Frieda also do an in shower treatment that's good. The spray is what I use on my hair. I think my hair is very similar to yours.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went for the John Frieda shampoo but I haven't used it yet. By complete coincidence my DM aged 65 bought the same shampoo at the same time - she's got grey hair, dyed ash blonde, and wanted a warmer tone. The results look quite nice, although I don't think it's designed for grey hair.

Could you please update when you use it. I have dark blonde hair which looks so much better in summer. I would like to try this in winter.

I've used a john Frieda go blonder in the past - not sure if it was the same one, it was camomile based. In the past I've used other camomile shampoos (the body shop used to do a good one, but I don't think they've had it for quite a while now). Gentle and the change is subtle and gradual.

I've used john Frieda go blonder for years to liven up my natural medium blonde, especially in winter. I use it every few weeks in the winter to keep the golden tones up. It works well for me, is all I can say.

It made me orange

DillyDillyDally · 07/05/2018 21:28

The spray ruined my hair. There are similar complaints online about the shampoo. I wouldn't use it

Those sprays, they're just peroxide in different concentrations, isn't it?
