Smart trainers

New dress policy at work - we were business casual but now have taken that step down and smart jeans etc now ok.

I have decided this can extend to smart trainers as I loathe all of the shoes due to short wide feet with unfeasibly high insteps and arches.

I am unlikely to hugely change what I wear day to day (which tends to be ankle length trousers and shirts/jumpers/jersey blazers - cutting edge stuff ;)). Also I am senior management so don't want to be toooooo relaxed but can anyone suggest anything (not Stan smiths as they don't fit).

I have some leopard print slip on style ones. I wear a lot of navy and was thinking of some navy pumas to revisit my much missed 90s youth.....

veja?

Bubblysqueak · 05/04/2018 20:55

I've got a smart pair of sketchers trainers, they do a work wear collection and also do memory foam soles.
The pair I have look more like shoes than trainers but they have a nice range.

CountFosco · 05/04/2018 21:20

I have red suede pumas that go very well with all my navy clothes not enabling at all

TBH I'd go for a mix of classic retro trainers and those high end ones the bloggers like, like Ash or Air and Grace or Rogue Matilda or Rose Rankin or Grenson. Because obviously one smart pair of trainers is not sufficient!

Glug44 · 05/04/2018 21:23

If you aren’t changing your outfit then trainers will just look wrong. Better off wearing ‘weekend’ shoes in brighter more stand out colours.

LynetteScavo · 05/04/2018 21:46

I disagree, smart trainers will look perfect with what you've described.

I'm mainly marking my place, as I was thinking about this today.

Are you ruling out all Adidas?

PhyllisWig · 05/04/2018 22:09

I tend to the casual even when I'm trying to be smart so I actually think trainers will work fairly well with my usual outfits and in fact may balance them out a bit better.

Very much open to Adidas - my normal weekend trainers are Superstars or a pair of Adidas hi tops. I am saving for a pair of either cream or coral gazelles already.

Thank you for the suggestions. My concern with the on trend makes is fit - do they come up narrow? I can't wear converse for example as way too narrow. I like the Rose Rankin and Rogue Matilda especially plus Veja.

Rose Rankin are very narrow - I have quite narrow feet but even I find her trainers too narrow.

Air and Grace are fine, and a regular width plus very comfy. They also currently have 2 styles of trainer that are navy (one metallic navy, one white with navy glitter stripes). Worth having a look.

Look at Wolky's online shop. Lots of slightly quirky but fashionable (and super comfy) trainer styles:

I think most of these are lovely

I've not tried the Rogue Matilda trainers but I have a pair of their Crazy Chick slippers and the leather is butter soft and there's plenty of width in them so I'd assume the trainers will be equally wonderful.
