Dubarry- worth it?

Have been eyeing off a pair of the Dubarry Galway boots for 9 months. I don’t know why they ‘speak’ to me. I live in the bloody city and the closest I get to the country is the local farmers market whilst wearing a Barbour jacket when it’s cold. Are they worth it? Are they comfortable? Does anyone have anything similar instead? I don’t mind paying for them, but would be a tad miffed if they failed to live up to expectation. And

I was about to say that they are completely worth it on a cost per wear basis - I live in mine. But we have very different lifestyles - I’m in the country, have dogs and horses and if I wasn’t wearing Dubarrys would be wearing wellies all day (they beat any wellies I’ve tried hands down for comfort, warmth (without sweating) etc).

I do have dogs to walk- through a couple of large grass/field areas. It wouldn’t be a fashion statement per se, as I currently live in very sturdy boots due to being outside a fair bit. The fields get muddy, and there is just something about them that I really like. Do you find them comfy?

I love mine-very comfy from the first wear, equally great for muddy walks, puddle stomping or (cleaned!) and dressed up a bit for pub lunch or shopping in winter. I’ve had mine prob about 6yrs and they still look great. I’ve heard anecdotally that they aren’t quite as long-lasting as they used to be but that’s from people giving them heavy daily use on walks/round stables etc so prob not an issue for you.

YES. I bought mine 5 years ago and am still in love with them. I only use them for country walks September- May but I really enjoy wearing them. They managed a mid calf height flood which we encountered this weekend too

Was about to say only worth it if you’re outdoors a lot. Also look at Dublin boots, which are also very sturdy but cheaper than Dubarry.

I do find them really comfy. I walk miles in them every day, and am on my feet for most of the day. I've got the slim fit version, and only need one pair of wool socks in winter to stay warm (as opposed to numerous pairs with wellies, and still getting cold feet).

A different perspective - I thought they were completely dreadful. Admittedly I have tiny calves and ankles but found they had zero support round the ankles and I couldn't walk in them for any period of time. Sold them on eBay after a month. Style over substance imo.

For me a similar style that actually works is the Spanish Riding Boot (and prob slightly more appropriate in the city, definitely more elegant).

Or at Penelope Chilvers.

These are all quite spendy but sure you will find cheaper versions if you search.

Definitely not. Go to Cabotswood. I’ve ridden/walked/coastal path’ed these every day for 14 years and they are amazing. Get loads of comments too.

They are very well-made and stylish. However, they have some design problems as they are narrow in the leg and ankle and difficult to get on and off (fine if you have slim legs and feet but I don't). They are a bit on the heavy side and also the sole is not flexible and the leg part is quite rigid.

Most people I know go for Le Chameau (live rurally).

I decided against buying a pair of Dubarry boots and opted for Aigle wellington boots (£100) instead.

Sorry, I only just noticed your second post - if you need something for mud and dog walking, run directly to buy a pair of Aigles. They are amazing.
