MOB hat hair conundrum

EasterBunBun · 02/04/2018 22:05

I wasn't planning on wearing a hat because I have fine hair that will get totally flattened and facinators all look bizarre on me but now I have got an outfit ( hurrah) it kind of looks unfinished without something to balance on top.

The outfit is a lace dress with an edge to edge silk shantung jacket - dressy but not stuffy and, as the dress has sleeves ( 2nd hurrah), I will ditch the jacket post ceremony and photos. My hair is fine, dark blonde and cut in a sort of layered below chin length bob. My hair has got finer and floppier over the past couple of years and my dear hairdresser has been trying to find a styling solution - even if it is curled, produced up and sprayed to,within an inch of its life it is not going to hold volume for long.

I wear it in an elastic tie for gym,so I have just thought about growing it ( got a few more months) a bit more and having it up with a simple piece on it - a very glam friend does this with an entire wardrobe of pieces on combs or elastic to give the effect of a messy bun ( not long) . It could then maybe have something decorative in it ? Does this make sense ?

I think would be doing this myself because the hairdresser who is coming to the house will have her hands full of complicated things for the bride and her bridesmaids :/

What about those elastic band hair pieces, like a scrunchier with hair on, to make it a bit more voluminous? Your outfit sounds lovely :)

letiziana · 02/04/2018 23:53

meant to say that you could have a decorative clip in a hair piece, if you feel that your own hair won't be long enough

EasterBunBun · 03/04/2018 00:50

Thank you [letiziana] Yes- a small casual hair piece was what I was thinking of - my own hair would not be enough, and would look too 'pinheaded' my friend wears either the scrunchie type or has comb ones. She is very light blonde and I don't think she has any problem getting them to match . I think I might ask her what she thinks and maybe try one out for style. Then something - a jewelled clip? Fake flowers ? as decoration.

I have a slightly longer than chin length bob too and bought a set of clip in hair extensions that my hairdressers uses to do "pin up" styles for special occasions like weddings - you could have a sparkly clip or comb put in too

Or.... something like this which gives the illusion of being more than a fascinator but won't ruin your hair when you take it off?

As for volume and lift and hold, I also have fine slippery floppy hair and I have just discovered this root lifter which is bloody miraculous

The above suggestions all sound great but can I just say that you sound really lovely letting your daughter and the bridesmaids have all of the time with the hairdresser, very thoughtful!

That 'more than a facinator/less than a hat' one from Debenhams is nice - though sadly don't think the colour would work.

Posed this question to a group of friends IRL this morning and got such s mix of replies ! One who has hair like mine shuddered and said not to consider a hat, just go for lots of super strength product ( so that TiGi one would be useful) and look for a large, decorative hair clip.

I think the "hair piece" bun sounds like a good idea too.

I have fine hair too, and I find this product from John Freida really good. You wash your hair as normal, towel dry it a bit so it's not dripping, apply it, rinse out and use heat to dry your hair. It really really makes my hair feel thick!
