Is there any point in tinting dark lashes/ Pre-birth prep.

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 20:49

I had wanted to get a lash lift pre-birth so I'd look someways decent in photos afterwards, but you can't get a lash lift when preggo. I have dark hair and lashes anyway, not black but dark brown. Will a tint make any kind of difference? I wear glasses so the curl would have been nice.
What else can I get done in the weeks leading up to d-day? I'll be getting my brows threaded beforehand, I've just had my hair cut and will have a trim at around 37 weeks. I don't want to get my nails done in case I end up needing an emergency section or something like that where they need to see my nail bed.
I'm fairly low maintenance at the best of times and am just planning on bringing my cc cream, diorglow lipstick and dandelion blush as the extent of my makeup. I hold zero hopes of applying much of that once baby is here.

I don't wear much make up and generally hate pictures of myself but I love the picture dh took of me holding dd. We're still in the delivery suite, although I've had a bath at that point and put my pjs on. I've got an insane grin on my face and I'm so clearly overjoyed that nothing else about the picture even registers. I wouldn't look better in that picture if I had lipstick on!

Just make sure you tell the bloody bounty photographers who come round the ward to bugger off - no amount of make up will make a post natal, sleep deprived woman under halogen strip lights look good!

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 21:11

I've booked in to get newborn photos of the baby done properly so I won't feel guilted into getting the bounty ones!

I had my darkish blonde lashes tinted a few months ago and quite honestly couldn't see a difference. I would book yourself for a bikini wax and a eyebrow shape though.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 02/04/2018 21:17

Seriously? Is this a thing now? You will have just given birth to new life.

You are not supposed to look like a model. There are times when you should be knackered but joyous, this is such a time. It's a fucking amazing experience. Not a look.

Capture that and thosw photos will be beautiful

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 21:32

I won't look like a model either way, but I'd like to look slightly less like shit than I would otherwise. I also plan on having much more photos of myself than I ordinarily would.
But thanks for your constructive input. Hmm

Thanks square I think I won't bother with the lash tinting. To be fair I won't be bothering with the bikini wax - the only people seeing that won't give a damn!

I would recommend to be honest, I wouldn't want to be pulling lochia out of pubes... Confused
Also the gyno who stitched me up said having a Hollywood had made her job easier!

squarecorners · 02/04/2018 21:36

Me having a Hollywood. I have no idea on my gynaecologists grooming preferences!

Madonnasmum · 02/04/2018 21:43

No it won't. I'm dark brown and when I have the lift and tint the only difference is from the lift part.
Wait until after the birth, if you can be arsed (chances are you wont)

BossWitch · 02/04/2018 21:51

God god at 9 months pregnant I would have clawed out the eyes of anyone who tried coming at my fanjo with hot wax!

And as for making the job easier for anyone medically needing to be down there - they chose to do a job that focuses on dealing with fannies. Surely they should be able to cope with one?!

LoniceraJaponica · 02/04/2018 21:51

I'm glad that I had DD before social media and smart phones. There wasn't the pressure to be photo ready straight after giving birth.

squarecorners · 02/04/2018 21:56

Yeah she was fine but it meant they didn't have to get involved with a razor before they sewed my arsehole back together. This was the same woman who said to me "get off your face on the NHS" telling me to go for the gas & air while she had her finger up my bum examining me so I think jokey banter to diffuse the situation is part of her thing. I actually didn't mind the wax, maybe it stung a bit more than usual but I'm quite brave about waxing in general so wasn't that bothered.

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 22:13

I'm pretty sure there were plenty of post-birth pictures taken before smart phones and social media.
I'm not talking about getting cheek fillers and breast implants for the birth, but I'd like to be groomed. Hopefully the birth will be a glorious experience and I'll be glowing and ecstatic afterwards, but it doesn't always work out that way. I know from previous experience that I feel much better about myself if I feel like I look decent. I also don't expect to give a shit about most of this when I'm labouring or just had a baby, so I'm looking at what I can do in advance when I have time and inclination.

I'm not a fan of waxing anyway, so I still think I'll skip that step. They'll just have to deal with my non-hollywood worthy vag! Although I'm sure that would guarantee DH's interest in using sex to help induction...

You need to get your lashes done blue black and it definitely will show up. It's not blue just very black really. Ask the therapist to tint lower lashes with eyes open then close for top lashes.

When you have a lift they tint after. This makes the hair more porous so colours better. I'm a beauty therapist so any questions ask away.

mrslebon · 02/04/2018 22:18

Not sure the lash tint will make much difference to be honest. Yes to a bikini wax though. I had gel nails on and had a section, and they didn't seem too bothered about not being able to see my nail beds. You're hooked up to machines that tell them if you are losing consciousness. Your minimal make-up kit sounds ideal. I slapped on a bit of Bobbi Brown pot rouge when family came to visit in hospital and even though I couldn't walk or wash myself, at least I felt a bit better having a bit of blush on!

peonylover22 · 02/04/2018 22:19

My beautician claims you can have LVL during pregnancy? Only discovered it post birth so haven’t actually tried it out whilst pregnant.
I had lash extensions done at 37 weeks. They were the only thing that made me look vaguely human in photos the first few weeks after birth (I felt rotten after a complicated labour). So that might be another option?

KerplunkChampion · 02/04/2018 22:22

I got my eyes lasered, so whatever you have done is minimal in comparison, both cost and pain wise Smile

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 22:25

Oh it was the LVL that my local beautician does, but I thought that was the one you couldn't have when pregnant. I'll ask them, I might actually just pop in and ask them what, if anything they can do.
They do tend to do a very defined brow though, which is a shame as I'd like to get something a bit more substantial than my normal threading, but I'll just pack my eyebrow pencil and if I can be arsed and have a mirror, I'll do that.

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 22:30

Kerplunk I'd love to do that, but I'd have to completely raid the maternity leave pot for it!

Christ on a bike, please do not get any kind of genital waxing done if you are seriously thinking any midwife/obstetrician is bothered about quantity or siting if your pubic hair.
Waxing certainly does not make any kind of suturing easier, and I would go so far as saying recently-waxed skin is actually an infection risk shortly before birth. I’ve certainly seen a fair few ingrowing hairs, Bartholin’s abscesses and group A strep infections worse in this situation. It’s for this reason most decent units no longer shave the skin incision area of a Caesarean section, and have never shaved the genital area.
Hope you and baby are fine - you will look knackered but relieved/happy in photos, I imagine, as most new mums do.
I’m a consultant Gynaecologist; obstetrician until fairly recently.

Bumblealong1 · 02/04/2018 22:34

I wouldn’t mind not looking a state. And for those who have no interest and think we’re all silly then no need to comment. Each to their own and all that.
So..

  • you can get a manicure but can’t get your nails painted, but at least they’ll look cared for.
  • Can get a haircut but obviously you (or I) can’t have lovely hair every day between 37-42 weeks but at least shape/ends will be nice.
  • eyelash tint probably isn’t worth it. What else is there??
bassackwards · 02/04/2018 22:40

I'd say spend your last few weeks of pregnancy pampering yourself - lots of rest, fresh air, favourite films, bubble baths, foot rubs, etc. That will do you more favours than a lash tint! X

HolyShmoly · 02/04/2018 22:45

I've actually never had a manicure that wasn't just a polish - do they make your hands look nicer in general?
I'll be due a trim anyway so that should be taken care of, I might even go mad and have a conditioning treatment.
I'll ask about the eyelash lift, but if not I don't think I'll get a tint.
I'll be getting my brows threaded, I get them done around quarterly anyway so will be due a visit.

I'm struggling of thinking of anything else too, wasn't sure if I was missing something obvious. I'll be making sure my tash has been taken care of too.

"I'm pretty sure there were plenty of post-birth pictures taken before smart phones and social media."

There were, but they weren't as "staged"
TBH it never occurred to me to take any make up into hospital. But I generally take care of myself anyway - eyebrow threading, regular cut and colour, keep nails tidy, legs shaved etc

Twotabbycats · 02/04/2018 23:08

You probably won't remember as you'll have bigger things to think about, but could you take an eyelash curler? I can't wear any eye make up at all because I have ocular rosacea and I find curling my eyelashes and doing my brows makes a massive difference!

Longleggedlovely · 03/04/2018 05:02

I had my wee one 6 weeks ago and asked a similar question re make up before he was born (the replies were similar!). IMO do what makes you feel good. I had my regular waxing, brows done and lashes tinted blue black which does make a huge difference. I had a section so no make up for a couple of days but it made me feel human once I’d made it up for a shower. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
