I cannot wear this to a '30s/'40s themed wedding, can I!

Friend getting married in June. Wedding is 'Old Hollywood glamour' theme (we have been told to think silver screen sirens).

I was wandering through my wardrobe with DP (as you do, on a Sunday!) and he suggested this dress. See pics.

I love this dress and it's new to me but I cannot wear this '40s dress to a wedding. I am no shrinking violet but it's too much for a wedding, yes?

DP thinks I am being silly and that I could just "wear a cardigan" over it - but... I really don't think I can in good conscience wear it. Grateful for views (that I can show DP :) )

Dress is lovely - go for it. Definitely a glam wrap to go with it. Maybe a glittery shawl if you feel like you need to done down the glam a little but really - despite being shy about clothes etc - I usually think it's better when there is a theme to go for it so every gets you are themed.

PeonyTruffle · 02/04/2018 11:39

I think wear it, matches the theme perfectly

Do you have actual mannequins in your wardrobe?! Or is that images from where you bought it from?! Grin

Oddcat · 02/04/2018 11:42

I was just going to say the same about the mannequin! And 'having a wander through your wardrobe '.

I'm imagining one of those massive wardrobe rooms like they have in Real Housewives.

Amazing dress but borderline could look bridesmaid/bridey although i find longer ballgown style dresses do at weddings (personal opinion!) However if other guests going similar then go for it will look great with bolero/wrap and heels, so yeah perhaps check with a few others who are going?

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 02/04/2018 11:45

Dress is gorgeous. (Fake) fur wrap needed, surely?

If it’s not an air conditioned for the cashmere, super duper extravagant wardrobe I’m going to be disappointed now Grin

< Looks sadly at Ikea PAX Wardrobe and considers selling DS and turning his room into a walk in wardrobe >

The dress is amazing, and yes to fake fur stole or capelet.

How will you have your hair?

gillybeanz · 02/04/2018 11:57

The dress is amazing and you must have a lovely figure to wear it.
Please wear it whilst your still able, I wish I'd dressed up more when I was younger.
You'll look a picture. Thanks

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 02/04/2018 12:25

The dress is gorgeous, and perfect for the request. As you wouldn't have the expense of buying an outfit, perhaps spend on an appropriate hairstyle to match? Also, as suggested by previous posters, faux fur stole/wrap. Nice corsage. Glitzy clutch-bag. E-bay for costume jewellery. Finishing touch = "stick that in your pipe and smoke it" lipstick!Easter Grin

A walk-in wardrobe would be THE dream! Sadly the mannequin comes from the original seller photos (on Etsy - it is vintage from the 1940s). I have two tiny wardrobes and a clothes rack in our place.

I have a fake fur wrap in beige/cream which could work! Also a sparkly sheer gauzy wrap which may also work for post-dinner :)

We'll if that isn't Old Hollywood Glamour, I have no idea what is. Stunning.
