What the hell can I wear to work once the weather is warmer?

This is my first time ever with a non uniform job.

For the last few months I’ve worn mainly dresses with opaque tights and ankle boots. I’m a size 16/18 (working on losing weight).

I think I look better in dresses or a top and skirt than trousers. But am not sure what to do about my legs when I can’t wear opaque tights. I don’t want to do bare legs as I get bad thigh rub (even when a size 12). So what else? Skirts
/dresses and nude tights?

Or bite the bullet and find some trousers which look ok.....I don’t like waistbands much. So fashionable elasticated waist trousers would be ok I guess but don’t want to look like I’ve been shopping in the back of the Sunday Times Magazine supplement.

I was going to start a thread like this so thank you! Some good ideas here.

I have to wear 'office wear' smart casual if anyone has any ideas For that other than dresses. They'll be greatfully received.

@ProseccoLush www.next.co.uk/xo54056s2#690954

I think these are the ones! I bought mine awhile ago, but pretty sure these are the ones.

Bezm · 01/04/2018 16:52

I'm exactly the same as you! I've bought a couple of pairs of ankle grazer trousers from Mand S which I can wear with sandals or ballet shoes, a nice t shirt or blouse plus cardigan. They look very smart but have a lot of give in them. I also wear below the knee leggings with above the knee summer dresses. Help with the rubbing thighs!

ProseccoLush · 01/04/2018 16:56

Thanks ToriRay. I will give them a try

CountFosco · 01/04/2018 18:02

Like the idea of air conditioned offices, sadly we don't have them!

I wear ankle grazer trousers, or wide legged trousers (cotton linen mix so less likely to crease), some silk joggers might be nice if worn with a smarter top. Tops are cotton or silk. I have a few cotton dresses, shirt dresses are good for summer work wardrobes and still look smart in the heat. You need to be careful with maxi skirts or dresses that they are smart enough. Shoes are difficult, we have to have our toes removed so pointy flats are popular.

CountFosco · 01/04/2018 18:02

Toes removed????
toes covered

ToriRay · 01/04/2018 18:04

@CountFosco 😂 that's some dress code! Your poor toes! That's work commitment!

rascallyrascal · 01/04/2018 22:21

I wear a lot of linen trousers in the summer. M&S's curve range is good as is Asda. I never wear dresses as most of my weight is on my arse and legs!!

DragonNoodleCake · 01/04/2018 23:19

@chloechloe Totally agree!
I've 'discovered' M&S Autograph seamfree tights!! Fantastic in every way (wish they were cheaper) they do they in lots of different deniers.
I love the fine nude ones for nicer weather.

5amisnotmorning · 02/04/2018 07:50

Second the m and s ankle grazers. I am a size 18 and they are fab.

LadyTesticlee · 03/04/2018 19:03

Chloe which nude tights do you recommend? i fancy trying them.

I heard Sally Hansen airbrushed legs is good but haven't tried. I think ill get a tan too

chloechloe · 03/04/2018 21:25

lady I generally wear Falke tights which are stupidly expensive but they last for ages. I think the most natural looking ones are the Pure Matt but I'm not 100% sure - best to have a look at the swatches in the shop.

The M&S ones dragon recommended sound good too but I'm not in the U.K.

LadyTesticlee · 04/04/2018 08:12

thanks Chloe will check them out

Peanutbuttercups21 · 04/04/2018 08:29

I think bare legs are fine on skirts and dresses that are knee length or longer

Cannot bear the restriction and sweatiness of tights between April and September

If you wear smart-ish shoes, bare legs are fine. A bit of talcum powder in the shoes stops them from rubbing/smelling
