Can anyone suggest a hairstyle for my 4 year old who has very fine, scraggly hair?

I've let it grow long recently but I am thinking of having it cut into some kind of bob. I would like to go to the hairdressers armed with a picture or a description so they don't simply cut some inches off her hair.

She doesn't have a fringe.

I think it will look better if it is not all the same length.... but then I don't really have a clue about these things so that's why I am requesting help!

Help!

very short bob, long enough for her to tuck behind ear or pin to side with clip. if it wont curl inder get it taperd slightly at back, i know this sounds quite 'old' for her but it will look sweet and neat

Plait it?

My dd has fine hair and we keep it in a short bob (ear lobe length) cut into the nape of her neck with a side parting - we get it cut every couple of months. It looks lovely, is v easy to care for and has thickened up a lot in the past year.

She wears it up all the time. She either has a regular ponytail or I do 2 plaits at the back at the nape of her neck. The plaits do look nice but I'm not sure I want it to be part of my morning routine when she starts school in Spetmeber.

oh oh oh

my dd1s hair is exactly like you describe

my aunt is a hiardresser and between her and me we have been trying to tame it

i use Lee Stafford babe wave enriching and defining shampoo (have tried LOADS and thsi si the best)
you can buy it in Boots

dont use conditioner - itll make it worse

wash no more than 3 times a week

blowdry hair with a heat protecting spray (protects hair from damage)

get a fringe cut and cut rest into a bob - my autn says the weight of the hair helps to tame it. i had layers cut into dd1s hair once and the ends got so frizzy and flyaway

nailpolish · 10/05/2007 10:12

actually fringe doesnt matter does it

i love bobs - they are so cute

French style bob with side parting? Both my sister and I had fine straggly hair as children and the shorter and blunter you cut it the neater it looks - somewhere between ear and jaw is best.
pics of the Petits Filous girl who has one here

I agree with everyone else, go for a short bob, having it up in a pony tail atm won't be helping, if her hair is very fine wearing it up tight will cause it to break.

Have a look in my profile pics, my dd has a short bob, but inverted so cut slightly into the back of her neck, my dd is opposite though, her hair is too thick so i cut it off to be able to manage it better.

imagine little girl in petit filou advert when shes playing marbles with little boy, very dainty and pretty style

ekra · 10/05/2007 10:15

I like the idea of a bob cut so she weras it to the side. She currently has a natural side parting of sorts, so the hair tends to want to go that way. So if I tell the hair dresser a french bob they'll know what to do will they?

I have two little girls with fine straight hair.

Lord the hair! The tangles! It does take some looking after, but here are a few things which I find have helped.

A blunt bob cut all one length to base of neck so still long enough to tie up and looks thicker.

Keep it in bunches/ponytail/plaits for school. Stays neat and out of sticky stuff.

Brush it before bedtime and tie back, not tightly, but it reduces tangles for the morning.

Use covered soft elastics and scrunchies - not rubber bands.

When washing I always comb through conditioner and blow dry under. Seems to keep the hair smooth and shiny for longer.

do what my mum did to me and give her a pageboy cut

PinkChick · 10/05/2007 10:21

here, similar to this?

ekra · 10/05/2007 10:23

Me too. I was mistaken for a boy most of my childhood.

Recent photo added (for limited time) if that helps. You can see how her hair doesn't stay up after a day of playing.

Petit Filous girl was exactly the style I was thinking of.

PinkChick · 10/05/2007 10:32

yes, she will look lovely with that cut..and you have same playhouse as us

ekra · 10/05/2007 10:33

Yes, hideous plastic. It's amazing how I've got used to that sight in my garden.

MrsBadger · 10/05/2007 10:33

she's a sweetie, ekra

yep, lop it off Petits Filous style

if it won't stay behind her ear you can use a single clip or an alice band

ekra · 10/05/2007 10:37

OK - I'm going to make the appointment today. DD1 seems happy to have her hair cut.

Sounds like my hair, I have a jaw length bob with a slightly shorther tapered side parting fringe...It's the only style that actually suits my hair!

PinkChick · 10/05/2007 10:41

if it go's a bit flyaway when cut, try a teeny bit (almot none at all) of vitapoint to tame it
