Thanks to the fabulous contributions to a thread I started on blusher (and a rather eventful day out today trying out and some epic fails) I wanted to ask you thoughts on highlighters.

I tried an Urban decay liquid one called 'sin' I really liked it but don't know what else is out there or what's good and what's not so good.

I cannot do anything pink or cool toned on my face- I learnt that much today.

I don't wear foundation or powder so I'm guessing I should go for a liquid highlighter?

when the SA put the highlighter on I was just so bloody grateful that someone was actually communicating properly with me and not trying to push a sale that i thought it looked wonderful- I might have had my grateful glasses on though, hence me asking for further opinions.

I thought this was going to be a stationery thread and was going to say Stabilo Boss, then I realised it was in Style and Beauty Grin

I use Boots Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm.

BusterGonad · 31/03/2018 19:33

I use Benefit Watts Up. It's a twist up chunky stick and is a champagne shade, so not cool or warm? I've had mine for ages, it really lasts.

SporkInTheToaster · 31/03/2018 19:35

I like Becca’s highlighters. The liquid shimmering skin perfector in moonstone is a nice ‘warm’ grown up highlighter that won’t give you a glitterball, tin-man, TOWIE face.

Hourglass do very good subtle glowy daytime ones (I like ‘dim light’ powder).

I also like strobe cream by MAC but it might be too cool for you. It is sheeny and light reflective but not ‘pink’ (though it is a ‘cool’ highlighter).

ProperLavs · 31/03/2018 19:37

thank you already!

Hands down my favourite highlighter (and I have tried a LOT of highlighters) is Mac's Soft and Gentle.

It's brilliant, pinks and golds with a subtle shimmer, I get comments on it all the time.

KirstenRaymonde · 31/03/2018 19:43

Hourglass so far, but I’ve just bought one of the Glossier Haloscope sticks that I’ve seen raved about and looking forward to trying it.

Jaimx86 · 31/03/2018 19:50

Benefit Highbeam has been a favourite of mine for years. Subtle, and only a small amount needed.

Last year, I discovered what I've found to be the best highlighter powder: the Dior Nude Air powders. So subtle but my face GLOWS when I wear this. My skin looks really healthy even after a late night. Fairly pricey, but a powder lasts for approx 5 months and I wear it nearly every day.

On the cheaper end of the market, the Pixie Glow products also give a subtle highlighting effect - none of those bizarre lilac streaks that the youngsters have on their cheekbones.

Highlighters are one of my favourite categories of make up!!! They make such a difference, like blush actually.

I have quite a collection and I adore MAC's Double Gleam. It's a sister product of Soft and Gentle already mentioned which I also own and like.

I always go for powder ones as I put them over foundation and powder, but you don't need to worry about that so can use liquid ones too. The most full on liquid highlighter is Cover FX Enhancer Drops.

ProperLavs · 01/04/2018 08:04

Thank you. I have been busy in eBay.mi have ordered a sample of the be a, some fx, probably not the real deal but I'm sure good enough and am watching some Mac .

proper you can often buy samples of products on eBay, I can’t vouch for their authenticity but there are some sellers that sell a large variety of samples so less likely that they are fake

My favourite liquid highlighter is Mac strobe, and also soap and glory illuminator is really nice, warm pink tinted gold. I do use foundation but i usually dab over with a sponge

Powder ones, my favourite is becca champagne pop, it’s a neutral champagne gold so should suit you, and also a super cheap (£4!) but really nice warm MUR baked bronzer in rock on world. It’s a bronzer but it looks amazing dabbed on top of your cheekbones.

thelionthewitchandthebookcase · 01/04/2018 14:18

I use the L'Oréal powder highlighter which I find looks more natural and subtle than the creams I've used in the past

Scotschic · 01/04/2018 17:09

I use Benefit high beam and Anastasia Beverley Hills, the benefit one is a liquid highlighter and it’s brilliant, the ABH comes in powder form and many colours but it’s pricey as hell and you don’t really need to spend a fortune on highlighters at all, I like to mix my foundation with my highlighter, rather than putting the highlighter straight onto the foundation, to give myself that dewy look that, for some strange reason is ‘out’ at the minute, so says the magazines!

I like to experiment and rarely buy the same products over and over, I also have another Benefit highlighter (can’t remember the name of it though & I’ve left it at my mates so can’t check) that’s like a pan stick and the case thing that it’s in is blue and silver and oblong shaped, it goes on like a pan stick foundation too, it lasts forever and is brilliant, although it’s not great for under the eyebrow as it’s too thick to neatly put on under there, I’d recommend the liquid highlighter for under eyebrows.

Scotschic · 01/04/2018 17:11

Thanks Buster, your post has just reminded me of the name of my other Benefit highlighter, Watts Up!

ProperLavs · 01/04/2018 18:07

I have seen jreiewsw say ing that highbeam is a bit too 'in your face'. Do you not find that then?

I also really like Mac soft n gentle too

Oh and this one, I have it in champagne

I really love highlighter!

Scotschic · 01/04/2018 18:25

ProperLavs

No I find Highbeam quite subtle, it all depends how much you put on I suppose, it’s like nail varnish as it has the same type of applicator, it’s genuinely brilliant, and tbh it’s the only highlighter that I’ve bought more than twice!

Scotschic · 01/04/2018 18:28

The Watts Up highlighter from Benefit is probably better for you as it’s a gold colour whereas the highbeam is pink, but a very subtle pink, although it doesn’t look pink when it goes on, the Watts Up is more just for cheeks, I don’t know where you put highlighter but I put it on apples of my cheeks and under my brow, liquid highlighter is better for under the brows.

countrygirl171 · 01/04/2018 18:36

I love the RMS living luminizer and the Perricone M.D. no highlighter highlighter.

Bluesheep8 · 01/04/2018 18:45

Benefit shy beam is great on mature skin as it's Matt rather than shimmery. I think it must be a Matt version of high beam judging by the name...

ProperLavs · 01/04/2018 19:21

I actually do have the rms, I had completely forgotten. It's very subtle though.
I think I might well get the Mac one. I have heard about manizer, will check it out.
The Matt benefit one sounds great too.
Those of you who have lots of highlighters, do you rotate them or have ones for day/ night/ work etc?

OP posts:
Scotschic · 01/04/2018 19:30

I would rotate them in all honesty, I would use my Anastasia Beverley Hills ones to go out as they are less subtle, great colours though!

ProperLavs · 01/04/2018 20:34

Thanks scotschic.
On mua the Matt benefit one gets poor reviews as a highlighter but good ones as an under eye concealer. I could do with some help in that area.
Manizer gets amazing reviews pretty much everywhere!
