Help for cleanser novice

So I’m starting to try and get a proper skincare routine going - I thought I had one but reading some of these threads has made me realise that I’m way way out of my depth.

I’m 35, with normal cheeks, combination skin on t-zone. Few signs of aging. Had been using a neutrogena spot defence cleanser morning and night which I think helps manage the spots - I think it’s the salicylic acid that does the trick.

Have added in a proper SPF (biore watery essence) instead of relying on SPF in moisturiser (biore watery essence) but am breaking out. Before I try a different SPF, I thought I should try overhauling the cleanser situation, to see if that helps.

Am thinking of these 2 for the evening:

www.laroche-posay.co.uk/toleriane-softening-foaming-gel

Does that sound sensible? Would I be able to use the foaming gel in the shower in the mornings to cleanse (I know this is a no-no but I really don’t have time for a separate basin cleanse in the morning).
But then how do I get my beloved salicylic acid? An acid? When? Confused
Once I’ve got the SPF and cleanser sorted will move on to moisturiser, vitamin C, acids...

How about using a salicylic acid toner? The Roche Possay effeclar one has it I think.
I know it's frowned upon but I used a face wash type cleanser in the shower too but then use a balm cleanser at night. Perhaps that would work for you?
