If you have long hair how do you keep it looking nice?

I have fairly long, mid way down my back. I have 3 DC and work pretty much full time. I never have the time to do much with it other than blast it dry with the hair dryer or tie it up. I feel a real state if I’m honest, I’d love to look more polished and sophisticated than it is now! Cutting it isn’t an option as I’ve been there and always grow it back.

So if you have long hair what do you do with it to make an effort?

I haven’t got time for blow drying either! I either run the curling wand over a few chunks then run fingers through, or it’s up in a messy bun. My hair is naturally wavy so I only wash it once or twice a week.

Mine lives in a side plat almost all the time. I don't like to blow dry it too often.

I tend to wear mine tied back most of the time - either a ponytail or a messy bun (properly messy as in I've just bunged it up and tied a bobble round it, not "instagram messy" where I've spent 2 hours artfully teasing it!).

Try and let it dry naturally if you can and if you do use heat (dryer, straighteners etc.) then make sure you use a protective spray. TBH I only use heat when I am going to wear mine down and that probably works out to a couple of times a month. Use a good shampoo and conditioner - I like MooGoo as it's gentle on my scalp (I have eczema). Get the ends trimmed regularly so that they are nice and blunt and healthy looking rather than wispy and split.

Have a couple of inches chopped off bluntly to tidy it up and create more of a style.
Also check out the millions of no- heat curls vids on YouTube. I find the headband curls work best for me. It takes literally 2 mins before bed.

I think my hair's nice. I get it trimmed every 8 weeks and rarely use heat. Air dry and occasionally put in some loose plaits when it's still a little damp to create some waves at the end (hair is naturally straight, and waves fall out pretty quickly).

I use a couple of squirts of a coconut oil/water spray from OGX (I buy from Boots at the airport as I live abroad) when my hair's half dry after washing.

I only put my hair in a ponytail when running/playing sport. At work if I want to put up my hair I make a very quick chignon and secure with a clip. Unless it's very hot I wear my hair down most of the time, sometimes with a halo braid (super easy) or a band.

Thanks everyone. I’m going to get some cheap headbands from Primark and try the headband curls. I have a natural wave in my hair anyway but will try get get some spray to do beach waves with. I will definitely get it trimmed to tidy it up, it looks all stragglyand witch like at the moment!

Good luck! The headband curls are fab and when they drop you still have waves and body.

I use a big fat curling wand to put waves in it after washing, and these last about 3 days. Bit of dry shampoo inbetween.

SukiTheDog · 29/03/2018 19:58

I wash every other day or, if I can every 3rd day. I air dry then use a brush styler thing on the cool air setting just to give it a bit of lift. I’ve fine, bra strap length hair but lots of it.
