Wedding Hair

I'm getting married in just under six weeks. I am on my third hairdresser. The first one, booked last summer, decided a couple of months ago she wanted to go on holiday instead, and cancelled the booking. The second one, who knew the full story about the first, cancelled two trial sessions at the last minute, and then got pissy with me when I told her I had concerns about reliability. The third one, who also knows I've been let down before, and who has taken a deposit from me, has just failed to show up for a trial and has switched her phone off.
Question one. Is this normal?! Do other people just accept that wedding hairdressers are flaky as fuck, and keep their fingers crossed that it will be ok on the day?
Question two. What the fuck do I do?? What chance have I got finding a fourth bloody hairdresser who isn't booked up six weeks in advance? And if I do find one, how do I make sure that they actually fucking show up?
Please help Sad

That's terrible! Can you go to a salon somehow? Or arrange for someone from a salon to come to you? Might be really expensive but more reliable.

A salon might be safer as they’ll have back up.
And just in case cupofjo.com/tag/diy-wedding-hair/

I hope however that a rock solid totally talented hair dresser has an opening for you

Can't you just go to your normal hairdrssser?

Are you me?! My first hairdresser cancelled to go on holiday. The 2nd one I called them a few days before my trial to ask a question and they then said they didn’t have enough time to do my hair on the morning of the wedding - I asked if they could come earlier but she said no so I cancelled. I struggled for about 2 weeks to find a 3rd person, finally found someone and she cancelled my trial twice.
I did eventually have a trial with her and it was perfect so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly on the day.

I think it’s just bad luck to be honest and you have to hope that they realise how important a wedding day is not to let you down. If you can book at a salon at least there is a chance that one of the other stylist can do it if you do get let down again.

I know exactly how you feel and wish you luck!

The first one I booked was via my regular salon- not my usual hairdresser, who doesn't do wedding hair, but another stylist there. I suppose going to a salon instead of getting someone to come to me might be a possibility, and it's all in a big city centre so there are lots of places I could try.
I've found a few loose plait-type styles that I think with practice I could pull off myself, so I think that's going to be the fallback.

I'm very relieved that it isn't just me, Hipho. And glad yours was how you wanted it in the end. I don't understand, though, why it doesn't occur to them that the trial isn't just testing the hairstyle- it's their chance to show that they're professional and reliable. I was saying to my partner, it's pretty much the one thing you can't cover for. Your dress turns out not to fit, at least you know beforehand and can run around finding a replacement. The DJ doesn't show up, you stick an ipod onto the speakers. No hairdo, and it's there in the photos forever.

Are you on Facebook? I always see people asking for hair / beauty recommendations on there. Is that an option for you to ask friends for local suggestions?

Our best man decided the night before the wedding that the 150 mile trip was too much for him, so we had to find another with 20 hours notice! Shock Grin

The ones in the links are either just a normal ponytail or a scruffy bun that even I could do myself. Do you actually need all this?

LockedOutOfMN · 29/03/2018 12:31

I'd go with a salon and physically go into the salon the morning of the wedding. If you can't go to your usual salon, get recommendations from other local brides.
