Do you think hair really needs cutting every six weeks ?

Of course if it’s a short style it will but if it’s longer ?

My DDs have long hair, and they get the ends trimmed every 4 - 6 months. If you haven't got short hair or very styled hair, it's fine.

Depends on the style. If you have a fringe/shaved parts/ layers they neee cutting to maintain. 6 weeks seems excessive for a lot of hair though

newdocket · 28/03/2018 11:31

I don't think so, no. Quite handy for hairdressers that this is the accepted wisdom! Although it probably depends on the robustness of your hair / abuse you give your hair and propensity to split ends etc.

I have mine cut every 10-12 weeks and probably could go longer than that (it's chin-shoulder length).

upsideup · 28/03/2018 11:44

It probably doesnt need it but it works best for some people. Mine, DD1 and DS2's long hair gets trimmed every 6-8 weeks, DD1's hair is still down to her bum as it grows so quickly so if we didnt cut it for 6 months it would be way too long. I'm not that kind to my hair and tend to get split ends but like dds is grows quickly so getting it cut that often keeps in healthy and long.

thiskittenbarks · 28/03/2018 11:53

No not at all. Especially not if you want to grow your hair / the hair.

bananamonkey · 28/03/2018 13:07

No, mine is longish and I do it every 10 weeks, I have gone longer but now I need to get it coloured too and that definitely needs it by then. I also straighten most days but the ends don't get that bad. I cut my own fringe in between.

Jozxyqk · 28/03/2018 13:13

No. My DD's hair hasn't been cut for nearly 4 years. Initially because she wouldn't let me near her with the scissors & I was terrified I'd cut her by accident; now it's her choice to have it long. She has virtually no split ends. It's really thick, unbelievably so considering she's not even 6 yet. I used to have long hair so I know how to look after it.

LardLizard · 28/03/2018 13:19

Thanks, you’ve confirmed to me what I was thinking hat unless you have short hair or a certain style that needs it
It is just not needed to go every six weeks to get your hair cut

It’s just a rip off

Likes others have said depends on the style of cut and length and hair abuse.

I think 3-6 months for mid length or long hair that's in reasonable condition is enough.

SleepingBooty · 28/03/2018 13:22

No, I cut mine twice a year when the ends look bad. I go to the hairdressers every month for my roots and she refuses to trim until it really needs it. I use plenty of conditioner and oil on the length and ends to keep it in good condition though.

bedtimestories · 28/03/2018 13:22

I went a year without cutting my hair, you couldn't tell it needed cutting and it kept its style. My daughter goes every 6 months and son goes when needed

Lilonetwo · 28/03/2018 13:23

I get mine done once a year. It's a long style and by one year it does look a little bit ratty, but not terrible.

lorelairoryemily · 28/03/2018 13:32

I wish my clients thought they had to have their hair cut every 6 weeks, I'd be loadedGrin

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/03/2018 13:36

It isn't a rip off. You can chose to, or to not. Rip off is laughable.

upsideup · 28/03/2018 13:58

It’s just a rip off

Its really not, you have to volutarily go and to get your hair cut, no one is forcing you to go, Its actually not needed to go and pay to go and get your hair cut ever.
Hairdressers recommend 6-8 weeks to avoid to keep hair healthy and avoid split ends and further damage, als if you have any sort of shape cut into your hair to maintain it.
