Face or Arse?

creampie · 28/03/2018 10:13

I've reached that crossroads in life where I have to choose. If I stay at my comfortable weight my face is starting to look a bit gaunt and old, but to pad it back out and make me look a bit younger I need to be a size 14 generous 12 (so not huge by any means), whereas I'm used to being a 10.

Which would you choose? I'm leaning towards face, being the thing that I see most often in the mirror, but it's very depressing having a wardrobe of clothes that are 2 sizes too small Sad

Ha - the face or arse thing doesn't work for me - I have a big arse even though I'm skinny everywhere else. To 'pad' my face out I would need to put on about two stone and then it wouldn't be arse, it would be general blob Grin.

I find a good pinky blusher with a little bit of shimmer in plumps my face out a bit without having to eat all the pies Smile

Floisme · 28/03/2018 10:43

I would rather have more wrinkles, and my cheekbones back. Any day.
I think the idea that a fuller face looks younger is a delusion, sorry.

misscockerspaniel · 28/03/2018 11:21

Go for whichever is going to be healthiest for you. (Sorry, I've reached that age when you appreciate how important that is Smile )

rightknockered · 28/03/2018 11:34

I would choose arse. Fat faces don't look better as you age, the fat just hangs down as your skin loosens naturally. Healthy fit toned body is the way to go

DairyisClosed · 28/03/2018 11:37

I would rather be a healthy weight tbf. Especially as you get derived the extra weight can really harm your bones.

DairyisClosed · 28/03/2018 11:39

If you are reakly concerned about your faze I recommend you try the beauty pie overnight skin perfector.

LucheroTena · 28/03/2018 11:43

Have a nice face and sit down.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 28/03/2018 11:45

I'm losing weight and watching my neck get saggy. I am far more.concerned about health implications of being overweight than my face looking old. Rather be old than the alternative.

JuliaRobbers · 28/03/2018 11:59

I think the OP is not choosing between being terribly overweight & looking old. The actual difference is probably just a few kilos. I am stuck between the same 2 positions & the difference is just 3 kg. Right now I have the 3 kg on & my face looks nice, jeans sit a bit tight. 3 months ago I didn't have the 3kg, jeans were comfier & my face looked tired, neck looked wrinkled. In either case my BMI is < 25 so it's not a 'health' issue. Watching opinions with interest...

runningdoll · 28/03/2018 12:45

I choose face in winter, arse in summer. It's only a difference of a few lb's and I feel better lighter, especially in summer. I've lost quite a bit of weight and most people say that losing the weight has made me look much younger overall.

I'd also choose feeling fit and healthy over both the face and bum.

MaudlinMews · 28/03/2018 12:48

I’d go with arse. You can get filler in your face.

I’m in the same boat. Such a pain but I think slimness is more important.

Chanelprincess · 28/03/2018 12:56

In my opinion, a gaunt faces ages a person hugely and make up/good skin care can only do so much. Why not go and get an honest opinion from a good dermatologist about how your face is likely to change over the next 5-10 years and what options you would have to delay that to help your decision making. You don't say how old you are, but a peri/post-menopausal decline in oestrogen is also going to have a drastic impact on your skin, unless you take HT.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/03/2018 13:02

As Meryl Streep once said about this very choice "I figured I sit on my arse".

No contest as far as I'm concerned. I'd far rather be a stone overweight than look haggard. I have friend who chose the "arse" option, she's a year younger than me and looks several years older.

And botox looks awful as you get older.

CallarMorvern · 28/03/2018 13:07

It's definitely been true for me. I went from size 22 to a 12/14, I'm 48 and looked younger, now I have jowls and look my age ( and then some!). I would like to lose a bit more, but this and loose skin has made me rethink. I'm tall so not overweight at a 14, but I am sad at how much it's aged me.

CallarMorvern · 28/03/2018 13:10

...but I'd still rather be a 14 than a 22!

AuntieStella · 28/03/2018 13:17

"You don't say how old you are, but a peri/post-menopausal decline in oestrogen is also going to have a drastic impact on your skin, unless you take HT."

And that decline will also have an effect on your body - especially filling out at the waist.

I'd stick with healthy/strong body. Perhaps look for anaerobic/weight based programmes to increase fitness and definition - on the general observation that sprinters are a more rounded shape than distance runners, so emulating them is path most likely to get best of both worlds.

Unlike being heavier than you're happy with, and finding your face will age anyhow. Which is worst of both, unfortunately

Greymisty · 28/03/2018 13:24

The thing about choosing your face over your arse is that you knees then get old from lugging extra weight! So say sod it and comprise go for a small 12?

Chanelprincess · 28/03/2018 13:54

And that decline will also have an effect on your body - especially filling out at the waist.

I believe the evidence shows that many women don't gain weight after the menopause if they modify their diet and exercise, whilst the effects on skin and hair and inevitable. Menopause is associated with a change in fat distribution which causes an increase in abdominal fat (hence an increase in waist circumference), rather than weight gain per se.

OyWithThePoodles · 28/03/2018 14:17

Face. I've tried both and face makes me happier.

MrsPMT · 28/03/2018 14:18

Hmm, as I've got slimmer my face has got more defined, jawline & cheekbones, which I think looks better and don't think ages me at all. I'm 45 and a size 12.

So slim face & slim arse Grin although being slimmer has lost my curvy arse so perhaps that's not really the desired effect Confused

InterstellarSleepingElla · 28/03/2018 14:42

I would say arse definitely and I say that as a beach ball with legs and arms. I am trying to lose weight as I seem to be developing jowls - it's not a good look!

EnidButton · 28/03/2018 15:26

Well some of these posts are cheering. Confused I'm now not sure whether I should carry on eating this chocolate because I'll get fat anyway or go and put it back to try and fight off the 'waist thickening'. On the other hand if I don't eat it I'll end up haggard and jowly.

Blimey. Hoping it's a few years off yet but something to look forward to anyhow.

EnidButton · 28/03/2018 15:29

Not saying it's not true btw, I don't know. Would just rather not know what's potentially coming.

I've eaten the chocolate. I have chubby cheeks and high cheekbones. My face looks better and more defined now I'm a bit older and I'm a small framed size 10. But I do like chocolate a lot so...🤷🏻‍♀️

creampie · 28/03/2018 17:30

Interesting thoughts, thank you

Still none the wiser though 😝
