Invited to party I’m so confused

I like to think I’m quite trendy however I’m more a casual kind of gal - boots, trainers occasionally that kind of thing

We’ve been invited to my Hs bosses 50th party at a golf club.

I’ve had a few years of ill health and I’ve really lost my confidence.

Can anyone give me pointers please- I’m so stuck - I’m 33, size 8-10

Do I go down the evening wear route or party wear? Confused

Thanks

What about a jumpsuit?? You could get a plain black one and dress it up with bold jewellery and a nice pair of sandals?

Goldmonday · 26/03/2018 21:23

Ah sorry you have already come up with the jumpsuit idea yourself!!

A black jumpsuit and heels sounds perfect.

Goldmonday · 26/03/2018 21:24

Have a look at the ASOS white collection

BabloHoney · 26/03/2018 21:28

Agree if you’re nervous about a dress a plain black jumpsuit with some bold jewellery and shoes would be lovely.. i like this one

I would wear with gold or red heels!

Also some nice party dresses on here that won’t break the bank. Have fun!

WillowySnicket · 26/03/2018 21:28

Yy to jumpsuit! There was a nice thread floating around recently about jumpsuits

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 21:30

Absolutely not party wear. And never, never wear jeans to a golf club. The appropriate dress depends on the time of day. If it is light out then tea dress. If it is dark then something slightly more formal but not cocktail.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 21:31

And don't wear anything too bold. You will regret it. Aim for elegant and you will always be fine.

BackforGood · 26/03/2018 21:35

That Monki one puglife linked to is awful! Looks like a dressing gown.

The Lipsy lace one Sweetheart linked to is nice, as are a couple nearer the top of the thread.
I agree with the majority - a 50th birthday party at a Golf Club for your dh's boss calls for a nice dress. Nothing too 'clubby' but smart / elegant.

Oblomov18 · 26/03/2018 21:45

It's a 50th. At a golf club. I would go more glam than not so.
I doubt your'll be overdressed. More under-dressed is the concern.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 21:49

So this would be fine in the evening for example m.johnlewis.com/ghost-ada-dress-leaf-green/p3471280

And this during the day m.johnlewis.com/hobbs-kathy-twitchill-dress-tropical-green/p3476157

As you can see a day dress has a higher neck line and a more casual fabric and simpler cut. Meanwhile an evening dress will have a more luxurious fabric and will have more to the cut and allows for a lower neck line. Obviously it doesn't have to be green (you may risk blending in with all the grass) I just chose those two to illustrate the style of cut and fabric you are looking for.

All jewellery and make up should be kept to a minimum

MadMags · 26/03/2018 21:50

The dress that @NeverTalksToStrangers linked is good, I think.

That thing from Monki is a monstrosity!

Goldmonday · 26/03/2018 23:05

@puglife15 outfit is my fave so far

Mmmmmmmchips · 28/03/2018 13:08

Can I add that only 3 work colleagues have been invited- rest are family and friends
