The Ordinary Niacinimide....

Panickypete · 25/03/2018 17:05

Bought it a few hours ago. Applied it. It stung as I applied it a little. My eyes started stinging instantly. And then burning. I washed it off but an hour later my face is still itchy in places and stingy.

Anyone else?

Are you actually applying it to your eyes or are you saying it irritated your eyes despite being applied elsewhere? I use it where I'm oily (t-zone mostly) and it doesn't affect my eyes.

Catsandkids78 · 25/03/2018 17:50

Use it and love it . Never experienced this so you might be allergic .

Panickypete · 25/03/2018 19:07

No I just applied it to the skin on my face and certainly not near my eyes. Face is still tingly and upset. Clearly disagrees with me.

It's in stock here.

Beautifullymixed · 25/03/2018 21:59

I also love it!
I just ordered two bottles from Deciem yesterday. Smile

othgraph · 25/03/2018 22:15

I've used it and not had stinging. How much do you use? I used two drops for the entire face. Sounds like you might be allergic or 10% is too much for you to start with.

Panickypete · 26/03/2018 06:34

I put a 5p sized blob on my hand and used that. Is that too much?

PragmaticWench · 26/03/2018 08:19

That's about right, so it sounds like you are very sensitive to one of the ingredients.

TheLastNigel · 26/03/2018 13:27

Thanks for that link-I've been trying to get some for DD who is starting to experience breakouts.

BagelGoesWalking · 26/03/2018 18:14

TheLastNigel Just be aware that it's a very Marmite product. Works well for some and causes more breakouts for others. So I'd patch test rigorously on your DD.

You could try something like this. It also has Niacinamide but at a lower % as the Ordinary one is pretty high at 10%, so it should be more gentle.

TheLastNigel · 26/03/2018 21:10

I was just go beg to mix a tiny amount into some moisturiser and be very careful with it-don't want to make her poor little skin worse but she is desperate :(

BagelGoesWalking · 27/03/2018 00:23

Oh, I know the feeling! My DD18 also has pretty bad acne which has been going on for 4 years. I was v reluctant but she's just now started antibiotics for 3 months to try and combat it.

Does your DD have blackheads or whiteheads or both. Or mainly "just" oily skin?

Panickypete · 27/03/2018 08:53

Have you guys tried benzoyl peroxide for your daughters skin?

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 27/03/2018 10:11

Yes, tried BP and a host of other creams over the years from the GP. Went to see a dermatologist privately who prescribed a Glycolic facewash (did nothing) and Epiduo (burned the hell out of her skin) but nothing really helped.

If I'd been more clued up about skincare a few years ago, I would have tried a completely different route. My skin has always been the complete opposite (dry, dehydrated, eczema).

Now I understand a lot more about good hydration, gentle products, good oils etc, but she's got to the point where she wants it sorted and is also of an age where she doesn't particularly want to try the lotions and potions I recommend (Korean skincare based).

She is taking a probiotic every day so I hope that mitigates some of the potential damage to gut health. It was highly recommended by ppl on a skincare group I'm on who've had experience of taking antibiotics for acne.

PeppersTheCat · 27/03/2018 11:56

I found it burned a little after use, but the burning wears off after 15mins.

TheLastNigel · 27/03/2018 17:09

She has whiteheads by bit many, but then just overnight HUGE pus filled sports that stay for ages. I started a thread about it because I don't really have any experience of it, the one negative face thing I didn't have growing up was spots, but her Dad had awful acne.
Witch stick doesn't really touch them. She is only little still at 12 but gets really upset Sad.
So just going to go very very easy with this as her skin is so young.

Jozxyqk · 27/03/2018 17:51

I tried this... really made my acne a lot worse! It took about 3 months for it to clear up & the marks to completely fade.

BagelGoesWalking · 27/03/2018 21:12

TheLast it's tempting to go for stronger and stronger products and it can actually make things worse, as all the things sold as acne treatments are stripping and harsh.

I'd suggest using very gentle cleansers like La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser or Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser to keep skin clean but not stripped. Steer clear of the LRP Effaclar, that would be far too strong for her skin.

Thiss* is definitely worth a try, it contains an AHA to help with getting all the gunk out of the closed comedones. It is an acid so obviously needs to be approached with caution so you can test a small area of her face, perhaps forehead, and make sure to start from low frequency and build up to maybe 3x a week. You'll need to keep her skin lightly moisturised/hydrated.

You could get this comboo* - Benton BHA toner and aloe gel moisturiser. Same principle as the Cosrx but probably even more gentle. You can get sample duos from eBay.

Also, you have to get thesee*. Put them on clean, dry skin overnight when you can see a spot coming to a head. It draws out all the gunk and also prevents the picking which then leaves a nasty mark. I'm suggesting the pack of 10 just because they've got 35% off at the moment which makes it a good deal.

BagelGoesWalking · 27/03/2018 21:29

Actually, the Cosrx may be too strong for her little face, on second thoughts. I'd try the Benton combo first.

I've actually got a set at home that I got for my DD but she was too stubborn to try. Happy to post to you if you want.

TheLastNigel · 28/03/2018 11:03

Bagel-that would be great if you are sure? I will pm you x

BagelGoesWalking · 28/03/2018 12:21

TheLastNigel Definitely sure. Looking forward to your DM.

TheLastNigel · 29/03/2018 14:23

Gaaah! I can't work out how to do it from my phone !

BagelGoesWalking · 29/03/2018 15:12

Can you do it from a laptop? I can't see how you get to see any inbox msgs on my phone either - but I can see the Inbox on a laptop - is it even possible via a phone?
