Tips and tricks... hair growth

My hair is just short of shoulder length and I just can't get it to grow. I've been trying for years but due to bleach and hair straighteners it doesn't go anywhere. I've stopped bleaching, I do still use heat but it's still not budging.. what worked for you?!

A combination of Kerastase Resistance range for protein and Lee Stafford’s Great Lengths hair mask helped mine. I’ve started to take biotin supplements too.

Sleeping in a silk sleeping cap
Using less heat (I now just let it dry naturally)
Using a scalp treatment before I wash my hair (I use one by Innate Life, they have a nice hair oil that I use too)
Taking a supplement, not sure how much it worked though

@missjoanie Thanks!

@TurnipCake Did you still use heat whilst growing? I'm guilty of getting the straighteners out everyday but my hair looks so awful without them. But it stays awful as I'm guessing that's what is stopping the growth...

I weaned down. I went from straighteners to blow drying a couple of years ago and the condition really improved. I then started to cut down on the blow drying to every other hair wash and started to space it out a bit more: that helped with the growth

Forgot to mention I also use a brush with wooden bristles; really helps to stop breakage and the wood helps to distribute the oils in the hair

This is what made my hair grow like crazy. Smile
Treat your hair as though it were silk.
I know it's difficult, but the no heat thing is probably the most important. It doesn't have to be forever.
No sls
No silicones.
Co wash sometimes instead of shampoo.
Don't brush your hair. Use a wide toothed comb instead. Check it has no rough joins anywhere on it.
Silk pillowcase
Braid hair loosely at night to prevent damage.
Don't use metal hair grips or tie it up in a way that will damage it.
Try and cover it if out in the wind. Be careful of handbag straps or seatbelts causing mechanical damage.
Biotin. I gradually upped my use of this. A lot of people struggle with side effects, but I found that by gradually increasing the dose meant the only side effect I got was increased hair growth!

People, what dose of biotin are you now taking, please? And where do you get it?

My hair is gets straggly once it's at shoulder length. I want long and luscious locks Grin

I bought mine from amazon and am currently taking 10,000mcg around 4-5 times a week. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B011LY3S7U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8
Before that I started off using one from Holland and Barrett which I think was around 500ug and gradually upped how often I took it. I probably took this for about 6 months though before moving onto the higher strength one.

Thank you Smile

Live somewhere hot - my hair and nails grow so fast it's hard keeping up with maintenance
