Where to shop? Size 18, high waist

Hi. I'm in my 40s, need smart casual office wear and jeans and tops and stuff, no frills, ruffles, or scratchy fabric. The sort of person M&S and Next used to be for.

Thing is, I'm now a size 18 so Zara is out. M&S old person range is OK as there will be a few colours that work and some high-waisted jeans. Usual problem is my large tummy and very high waist/long torso and large breasts - usually I get trousers that are baggy around the bottom if they fasten round my tummy at some point 6 inches below my waist.
I'm 5'9" but entirely from my long torso and tall pelvis - my legs are average to short trouser length.

So where should I look for tops that actually meet my trousers, and trousers that fit? Happy to pay quite a lot if the clothes actually last, but not just for a fashionable name.

Same problem here. Only my height is all in my legs and my waist is directly under my bra line

My browser ate my post. Short version: Sainsbury's boyfriend jeans and consider knee-length skirts or dresses for work.

Oh, and tops I get from Uniqlo. :)

I also have a high waist and big tummy. I haven’t actually done this, but I remember reading that if you’re that shape then you are better buying jeans in the size that fits your bum and legs and then having the waist adjusted.

As it is, I tend to wear a lot of leggings and dresses instead of jeans as they never fit! Even the jeans which just about fit me tend to fall down unless I have a tight belt around them. I think it’s down to my lack of hips and bum! They just slide right off!

Try these in waist 36 (size 18) or whatever your actual waist measurement is. If its more than 36 they have the same in 'curve'. www.asos.com/women/jeans/cat/?cid=3630&currentpricerange=10-295&refine=attribute_989:6352|brand:53|size:1956

Thank you for the recs. I know many people would just give up and wear dresses and leggings but I need trousers. Bravissimo at least do flattering tops which aren't all designed for shortarses. (short torsos, I suppose!)

I have a couple of pairs of these as basics for work, they are better on than they look in the pictures and worth trying. Nice and high waisted.

Isn't high waisted normally equated with short torsos?

DarkRoomDarren · 25/03/2018 07:08

My torso is short fwiw. V long legs and short (rather fat atm) torso!

BothersomeCrow · 25/03/2018 08:14

No idea, but mine certainly isn't!
If I don't buy high-waisted jeans they don't even go over enough of my pelvis not to fall down. Even the high waist ones are about 3 inches below my tummy button, which isn't something I really want to show off any more, and then there's my waist and then ribcage above that.

I don't mind the post-child breasts but ever since too much of my life involves 'Top that fits! Looks good. Trousers that fit! They look good - bugger, there's a 4-6 inch gap between the two...'

Have you tried long tall sally stuff? maybe that would work?
