Do we still wear scarfs?

And if so, what's good out there? I'm a fan of Becksondergaard but I wonder if that's 'so two years ago now'.
No viscose or polyester please.

Those silk scarfs are to die for, works of art they are!!
I am going to be very boring here because I am considering a 100% wool navy scarf by Becksondergaard, it's called Mill. I can only find it in amazon:www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N64M0OS/?psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&coliid=IG499VI1PJ7A3&colid=1F8BO3NMMRCKD&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-style-and-beauty-3202745-Do-we-still-wear-scarfs" rel="nofollow" target="blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N64M0OS/?coliid=IG499VI1PJ7A3&colid=1F8BO3NMMRCKD&psc=0&ref=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Anyone seen it elsewhere online. I'm obviously hoping to get it cheaper elsewhere Grin

My neck would be cold right now without a scarf. Unthinkable. I love them. Also good for somehow minimising the over-large boobs/tummy situation.

JaceLancs · 24/03/2018 23:27

I’m wearing cashmere scarves for warmth as outdoor wear but have completely gone off wearing scarves at any other times - I just feel they are unnecessary and a bit frumpy now - pity because I have some beautiful oned

expatmigrant · 25/03/2018 00:26

Yes but only a winter thing for me. I tend to wear lots of grey and black and wear them for a bit of colour to my drab (by choice) wardrobe.
Alexander McQueen skull one is my favourite.

jenlaila · 25/03/2018 07:04

A scarf worn properly will never look frumpy - Styled correctly, they are stylish and sophisticated. I LOVE a becksondergarad, stunning scarves. Wore my latest SUPERNOMAD purchase yesterday, nothing frumpy about it. And tonight, will wear the same scarf as a wrap - Just so versatile. If you haven't yet, do check out the fabulous collection at www.supernomad.co.uk/
While you're there, checking out the pitusa range is a MUST. You won't see any frump on supernomad, just beautiful style.

MN ruined them for me. I once read a scathing thread on here about "bankers wives and their scarves". At my school it is basically the bankers and lawyers wives who wear them along with a stinking attitude of superiority. I just can't bring myself to wear one in case they think I am trying to join their club. As a result I can also not bring myself to buy anything from Boden, Jules and Hush.

Not saying everyone is like this, just at my school.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/03/2018 09:13

Everyone I know still wears them. We have fierce air conditioning at work so a lot of people wear them to stop the cold blast from going down their necks.

pasturesgreen · 25/03/2018 09:57

Of course we do! And I'm 32 btw, so a few years away from the throes of middle age.

As a PP, I tend to only go for the classics: Gucci, Hermes (some of these can be conversation pieces in themselves and make family heirlooms of the future), Burberry, Roberta di Camerino...For more modern designs, I like Swedish designer Lisa Edoff.

Oldraver · 25/03/2018 10:02

I'm going to study that video...OH bought me an amazing Grayson Perry silk scarf and it has lovely colours (yellow, orange turquoise) bt I just dont know how to wear it

SoupDragon · 25/03/2018 10:05

I love scarves but most of mine come from Etsy.

MsHomeSlice · 25/03/2018 10:07

I like a scarf, but am too mean/careless/devil may care to spend lots on them! Plus DD is forever flitting in and out stealing them

"mammmma, can I borrow your scarf, I left mine at x/y/z!"

which generally translates as I will never see it again except maybe on facebook draped around a friend. Hmm

I do tend to not wear them in summer, but I might look for some smaller lighter ones, since I really miss them for a bit when the season changes.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2018 10:11

The woollen scarfs to keep you warm are fine. I think it gets dodgy when you move into the territory of wearing a long silk one draped round your neck to add a "pop"of colour and hope it hides your chest and stomach. It doesn't do the latter and it looks frumpy in nearly every case.

pasturesgreen · 25/03/2018 10:12

Damn, mrsdevinter, have ordered the Karen Mabon Pottery scarf and seriously considering the bubble wrap one...this won't end well! Blush

Whirlytastic · 25/03/2018 13:49

bluntness I need to hang onto my delusions - do not undermine them! My scarves are of the wool or jersey variety - not silk, which I find way too slithery. They rest nicely on my tits and tummy, which I accept remain undisguised. Ah well. At least my neck's warm.

Floisme · 25/03/2018 14:07

I wear them to keep warm but otherwise I've ditched them. They only draw attention to where my jawline used to be. Unfortunately my family and friends clearly aren't on Mumsnet as they keep buying them for me. It's like that episode of Frasier.

Belindabelle · 25/03/2018 14:14

Oh no why didi I click on this. I need that Breakfast at Tiffany's scarf.

Appuskidu · 25/03/2018 17:00

What’s so nice about the Becksondergaard scarves?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/03/2018 20:05

I like Silken Favours and the Age Of reason.
