Ridiculous clothes reviews

buffy58 · 21/03/2018 06:56

Apologies here if anyone here is personally responsible for this one but I've been browsing lots of clothes online which I don't offer do as I struggle to buy clothes. Seeking guidance from the reviews on items is driving me crackers...

The below one is an example from just now. No picture of cardigan on model so thought I'd look for extra info from the reviews.

"Quite smart. Suitable as loungewear"

www.next.co.uk/xo52068s11#177608

Not helpful...

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-supima-cotton-crew-neck-cardigan-404012.html

Cardigan- reviewed even though she returned it because she didn't buy the dress. Describes dress in detail anyway

Is it just me that is driven crackers by this? Why post such none sense?

'Bought it as a present to my great aunt Hilda, so can't comment on quality or fit. But delivery time was reasonable, so given 5 stars'

IsDaveThere · 21/03/2018 14:01

I agree that the second one is ridiculous but can't see what is wrong with the first?

Mulberrysilk · 21/03/2018 14:55

Perhaps you're expecting too much.

I don't see anything wrong with the first one either.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 21/03/2018 15:15

I read it as there is adifference between it being smart, or suitable for the office, and scruffing around at home eg lounge-wear.

Scabetty · 21/03/2018 19:11

I read it as a contradiction too.

buffy58 · 21/03/2018 19:25

I see what you mean - but I do read it as a contradiction. Is it "smart" as in suitable for public wear or "loungewear" suitable for either your lounge or lounging around at home...

'Haven't used it as bought in wrong season but packaging was lovely and customer services really helpful so five stars '

'Item was amazing quality and i wear it everyday but 1 star only because it arrived a day late'

'Can't comment on the quality as not worn yet but my wife has wanted this for ages and it looks awesome in the photos - 5*

'This foundation is terribly for dry skin so 1*' ( advertised as an oily skin product )

'Makes me feel ten years younger , cost next to nothing , my favourite product ever but taking a star off as the parcel arrived tatty '

I could go on for ever and ever but the best ones are in the question and answer section where customers answer questions to potential buyers:

'How is the sizing on this garment '
'No idea as it's my wife's '

mercurymaze · 21/03/2018 19:36

With unuqlo iirc they gave you free delivery if you left a review

buffy58 · 21/03/2018 22:25

Yes the amazon questions are ridiculous - is this durable? "Bought as a gift, looks great, not given it yet, but I'll let you know"

OP posts:
Mulberrysilk · 21/03/2018 22:44

I read it as something along the lines of 'its more presentable than your average loungewear'.

lostinjapan · 21/03/2018 23:10

Whenever there's an absolutely hideous dress at M&S and you get a load of 1* reviews from people who saw it and want to say how ugly it is. I mean what's the point of that? If you hate the dress at first sight, you have no intention of trying it on or buying it, then why would your opinion be valuable to anyone?

And not specific to clothing, but when people on Amazon give a product a 1* review because it was lost or damaged in the post. So annoying, especially when it's an amazing product and it doesn't deserve to have it's average rating dragged down.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/03/2018 23:20

I agree lost, when it comes to amazon reviews you need much more detailed information, like this one DD found when researching what the heck her Bear Grylls survival bracelet was for

MayFayner · 21/03/2018 23:32

I always feel a bit sorry for the question answering people. When you get the email from Amazon it does ask you to answer the question and I can imagine, e.g. my mum, thinking they mean her personally and that it would be rude not to answer.

wafflethedog · 25/03/2018 15:44

Yes re the amazon questions - you do get a lot of that. You can tell from the number of people who've answered something like "sorry I don't know, hope you find what you need"

GinandGingerBeer · 25/03/2018 16:22

They drive me mad too. I want to know what the fit is like/true to size/quality etc. I do not give a shiny shit that someone wore it to go ‘out with the girls’ or the box was crushed.

Longhairmightcare · 25/03/2018 22:15

Not S&B related but when pregnant shopping for baby items, nearly all reviews went along the lines of,
Great item arrived really quickly. Hubby is yet to assemble but I’m sure our little gir/boy will love it when they arrive.

Looks great in our nursery, can’t wait for bubs to get here to try it out.
