What do you wear when it's hot or you're going on holiday? We're going to Spain in June and whilst all my friends get excited to buy holiday clothes, I absolutely dread it!

I'm a size 16/18 and I carry most of my weight on my belly. I had two babies in quick succession so my stomach is a disaster zone! I really struggle day to day and stick with black, swing type cami tops, long vests and leggings with a cardi, that's pretty much my look every day!

I struggle in the summer as the black just absorbs all the heat. I can't get away with jersey dresses which are perfect for warm weather as they just cling and look awful. Everything I've come across so far is really colourful and patterned which is totally out of my comfort zone but I'm willing to wear anything as long as it's the right cut for my body type. I just don't know what the right cut is!

Have a look at some bigger YouTubers like Glitter and Lazers, And I Get Dressed, Learning to be Fearless and Fat Girl Flow. They do loads of ‘hauls’ of summery clothes. I’m not especially large but find their confidence and style inspiring.

It really does come in with a seam under the bustline, Strax - trust me, I have 3 of them in different colours and patterns! That pompom-type thing in the middle is on the seam. In fact you can see where the seam is because of the change in fabric pattern.

It's a properly fitted empire line rather than one of those weird drawstring jobs. You would need to see it on to see the way it hangs.

Strax · 26/03/2018 20:36

I am definitely looking at the wrong dress then Plagiarism because the one I found is all one fabric and no pom-poms in sight Confused
This is what I saw

I'm a similar shape. Last yeat I bought a similar dress to this from M&S. www.marksandspencer.com/curve-printed-short-sleeve-swing-dress/p/p60161077?image=SD_01_T42_8729E_F4_X_EC_90&color=NAVYMIX&prevPage=srp It washed like a rag. Went from beach to bar. Genuinely the most practical and flattering summer dress I have ever owned.

Forget leggings in the summer. Floaty tunics and cropped linen or cotton trousers look lovely. Cotton Traders are good for summer trousers.

itsbetterthanabox · 26/03/2018 21:49

I've just come back from tropical holiday.
I'm much bigger than you.
I wore chino trousers with loose light Bardot tops.
Maxi and knee length skater style dresses
I wear white cropped to cycling short length cotton leggings from yours if I'm wearing a dress and walking a lot.
Simply be are good for swim wear.
Think loose and floaty in hot weather. I took cotton thin shawls and pashminas to cover up with at night.

TalkingOrmer · 26/03/2018 22:19

@PlagiarismAndTheCuckoo I see the same dress as Strax when I search for that dress.

ChocolateAddict93 · 26/03/2018 22:52

I've just came back from holiday and I can totally relate with the clothing issues!
I stuck with shorts and tops and lots of mid length dresses. New look, ASOS curve, topshop, yours, boohoo - they tend to be my go to shops for holiday clothing.
As for leg rubbing - after lots of experimenting I've honestly found the best cure is using oil!! Either tanning oil or hair oil. It's my life saviour now and I can't go on holiday without it.

PlagiarismAndTheCuckoo · 27/03/2018 09:52

@Strax and @TalkingOrmer - No, that's not the one! Sorry. I should have posted a proper link but didn't know how because I'm rubbish with my phone .

Here it is:

Thanks Cuckoo that makes much more sense Smile

causeimunderyourspell · 29/03/2018 19:10

@DillyDilly that's my thinking too - I've really started to cage the sugar monster and am 4lbs down since I started this thread, yay!

You're right about the shorts too - I looked better in shorter shorts surprisingly. Not hot pants of course but mid thigh as you say Smile

@PlagiarismAndTheCuckoo that dress is stunning! Are the sleeves open and attached further down kind of like a kaftan? (If that makes sense?!)

PlagiarismAndTheCuckoo · 30/03/2018 21:20

@causeimunderyourspell - no, they are not kimono sleeves; they are more traditional short sleeves (if you see what I mean). But not restrictive if you buy the right size.

They really are lovely dresses for hot weather, very thin light cotton, very flattering, although they do seem to be selling out in the larger sizes at the mo. And they are pricey.

But I'm willing to bet that East will be bringing them out in yet another colour/pattern before long, and also (as I said before) Ebay is a happy hunting ground for previous versions if you type "East Anokhi dress" or "East Anokhi maxi dress" - second hand but cheaper (i've bought 2 like that now).

PlagiarismAndTheCuckoo · 31/03/2018 19:58

By the way - if you get one on Ebay, check it's the same model (the one with the pompom thing and long cords on the front centre waist).

Although I'm sure their other ones are great too! But it's that particular model that I would vouch for. Last year East did it in turquoise, then black and cream. Now it's in blue. If you wait 5 minutes I'm sure they'll bring out another version!
