Like my curly hairdresser but not her salon!

I don’t want to name her as that seems a bit mean but although she does a good cut, the salon is awful. She rents a chair in what is basically an old mans’ barbers. It’s pretty grim. Plus she doesn’t exactly use fancy equipment - you know how most hairdressers use a brush to sweep away the snipped hair from your face? She uses a washing up sponge complete with scourer on the other side!! And grotty towels.

I’m gutted as I’ve never had a hairdresser that I’ve wanted to stick with before but when I’m paying £65 for a cut and blow dry, it would be nice to be in a lovely environment and feel a bit pampered.

So I know PPs have posted about curly hairdressers in London before but which are the best (and have nice salons!!)?

Hazel at Belli Capelli in Egham is fab and i love the salon (it might not be to everyone's taste as it's small with only two stylists, but it suits me because it's relaxing, non-hectic, non-noisy, non-pretentious) and a cut costs £50.

Sounds great but Egham’s probably a bit far for me (I’m in Kent) unfortunately

If you’re really happy with the cut, I would stick with her - you wear your hair every single day, but you’re in the grotty salon for an hour. I have followed my hairdresser from a lovely fancy Aveda salon to her going self-employed in a manky place, then back to Aveda. She’s currently on maternity leave, and I would be happy to pay £65 for her to cut my hair in a stinky baby-change in a motorway service station!

Can you not ask if she does mobile hairdressing and can go to your house for the haircut?

Titsywoo · 19/03/2018 21:31

I've been watching www.lindseyhughescurlwhisperer.co.uk/this lady on FB and am going to go see her in a few months I think. Previously I used this lot but Jay is on maternity leave now although I might look into using the other lady who works for her.

If I ever find another hairdresser I'm really happy with they can cut my hair in a garden shed for all I care. A good hair stylist is incredibly difficult to find. Even harder for curly hair. I think you'll regret going somewhere else even if it's a nicer experience. It's the bit afterwards that's important.

EnidButton · 19/03/2018 21:33

Asking if she'll come to your house is a good idea.

Lindsay the curl whisperer cut my hair for the first time a few weeks ago - she was nothing short of amazing. I had a little cry when I saw the finished results the cut was fantastic and the advice she gave was brilliant too. I would highly recommend her. Based in Clerkenwell and really easy to get to - the salon was beautiful, very quiet when I was there which suited me perfectly.

I would be happy to have my curly hair cut by a good hairdresser ... anywhere ! Good curly hairdressers are like gold dust. Mostly I end up cutting it myself.

Chocwocdoodah · 19/03/2018 21:47

Pretty sure she doesn’t travel but yes, would be great if she did.
I know you’re all right that it’s the cut that’s important but it would just be nice if that hour or so felt like a bit of a treat!

Thanks for the recs. Yes, I’ve had my eye on Lindsey too...

Lindsey is fab. Not cheap but you can get away with only going a couple of times a year so works out ok. Highly recommended

Chocwocdoodah · 19/03/2018 23:17

Right, going to give Lindsey a try!
